I'm an alcoholic

Dec 29, 2011

The first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem, right?! Well here goes: My name is Alyssa, I am 21 years old, 4 and a half months out from Gastric Bypass, and I am an alcoholic. I am making the decision to cut ALL alcohol out of my life starting Jan 1, 2012, at least until I get to goal weight, and then go from there.

I realized that I was turning to alcohol to relieve my stress from being in school, and getting over some bad things that have happened in my life. I would purposely not eat as much as I could have (and should have), so that I had extra room in my calorie count for some alcohol.

This is a problem! I never thought that I would have an alcohol problem being only 21. At first, I chopped it up to just wanting to have the experience since I was legal to drink now. However, I was "experiencing" it everyday for a few weeks. My New Year's Eve party will be the last time I have alcohol until I reach goal weight, and then I plan on talking with an addiction counselor and going from there.
