cupid must have been in my corner today. i had my consult with the insurance coordinator and with my surgeon today. he is freaking great! he did my mom's RNY last march and was so proud of her progress. i carry my weight very well as he did not think i weighed as much as i did. go figure; i get that a lot. anyways, i was hoping there would be no six month diet involved, but evil reared its ugly head. so i am calling my pcp for a supervised diet and then i am going to get even more info about the lap-band as possible. i also meet with the nutritionist tomorrow; my psych eval will occur closer to the end of the six months. now i have to figure out the work situation since i am none too happy with my current place of employment....more to come as i make more progress.

... and i am one step closer to WLS. i finally got in touch with the physician's office coordinator, and she was able to fax me the necessary paperwork to start my journey with their office. i started to delve into my medical history; i still can't believe that i had a doctor's supervised diet at the age of 6. while not surprising, my mom did hold that from me until i started asking questions about the paperwork in general. another good step for me is joining the gym because i can relax and get a good workout at the same time. this seems so surreal, and i can understand why others are so anxious hearing for approval and getting dates. with work and school and trying to get WLS lined up, my life is going to be super busy now.

A few updates... So I have been waiting to get in touch with the surgeon's office. To say the least, I have had a time getting them on the phone- playing phone tag is not fun. I started working out at the gym, and I think this may help with recovery time and skin issues, but I am not going to get too hopeful. I also read a family member's GBP owner's manual. It made me nervous, but I am up to the challenge of changing my health for the better. I have two classes this semester, so I am trying to figure that into my schedule as well. I can do it all if I set my mind to it...

Today, I called my insurance company one more time just to clarify what I needed to do so I can start living again! My choice of surgeon, hospital and procedure are all covered, which was a big deal for me. I have to chose a surgeon first, which I have done already. A phone called was placed for my appointment with the surgeons office today. Today is one of the main surgery days; therefore, I am waiting for them to call back. More updates to come as the waiting continues.

I called my insurance company on Friday to find out about my coverage for WLS. The individual on the phone was not familiar with my request for information. She did lookup the information and managed to call me back. I am still a little skeptical about the information that was given to me over the phone. I still need some clarification on some aspects and will be calling them back after the holiday. My mom was in the car with me when I was called back. After I got off the phone, she and I discussed different scenarios; she offered her advice and her personal experience since she had gastric bypass in March 2006. It is so nice to have someone to relate to when going into unfamiliar territory; knowing that it is my mom puts me at ease. (She has lost about 120lbs in 9 months, which is so inspiring) We now have a little wager going too. She bought a dress during our little outing for a wedding, and I have decided that I have to wear that same dress to my brother's graduation next year or else...
