8 Days Post Op - The Light is Getting Nearer

Nov 29, 2007

Holy Smokes, who would have ever thought mashed potatoes and gravy would suck after 2 weeks of liquids!  Well I sure didn't!  I started my mushy foods yesterday and hated everything I tried (mashed potatoes, gravy, cream of potato soup, chocolate pudding).  Then the heavens opened up and scrambled eggs met my mouth this morning.   The only mistake I made was eating to much, but I needed to learn what that felt like anyway.

I am still able to drink fluids as if they are nothing, which is great.  I have not experienced any nausea and I am feeling good.

I went to see Dr. Barker today - saw Thompson instead, but I got my staples out - THANK GOD!  What a nuisance!  He said I was doing very well and he had no worries.  He said that I was lucky to have not experienced any nausea and I have yet to have any constipation - YET!! HAHA.  Soooo, the visit was good and I also ran into Kimbob, which was an added treat to my visit - She looks maaaavalous!

Anyway, I have a Cowboy game to watch so goodnight!

6 Days Post Op - I See Light

Nov 26, 2007

Ok Ok Ok - so I'm a big baby whining about regrets!  Well I'm down over 16lbs in less than 2 weeks and things are getting better.  Thanks to those who offered great support during my down time (not that I won't have more).  I'm not as hungry any more, the ugly sounds inside have faded away, I've gone to the bathroom (thank the lord) and I actually fixed my hair - did my makup and went out for a little shopping today.
No Applause please

Funny story about my shopping adventure today - I'm not really sure where I lost the 16lbs, but I was trying on shoes today and weirdly enough I was able to fit into my normal size 7 shoe - I have been wearing 8's for over a year now - Seriously!  So I guess I lost 16 lbs in my feet! LOL

Bottom line - sorry for all the fuss - I was just scared.  I feel really good - not perfect but good!  I go back to work tomorrow which I think will be the real test.  I also made my appointment today to get my staples out which will be Thursday - Does that hurt?

Thank you so much Kim, Teena, Paul & Mickey for all your thoughts and prayers. Hugs to all of you.

Special Thanks to Teresa for EVERYTHING you have done - You truly are an ANGEL

OH - does this mean i'm on the losers bench?

4 Days Post Op - Life is NOT Good!

Nov 26, 2007

Well I'm 4 days post op and feeling much regret at what I have done.  I am very scared and beating myself up a lot about the choice I made.  I feel like someone is sitting on my chest, I'm able to drink a lot more than a 1oz med cup every 15 minutes and I have embarassing hyperactive bowel sounds like you have never heard.  I know it would be crazy to think that I would be feeling spectacular after major surgery, but I'm VERY Hungry and I'm worried about how much I'm able to drink.  I can finish a 6oz protein shake in probably 30 minutes. I can eat a popsicle completely in about 6 minutes. Has anyone experienced this?  My upper and lower torso makes noises all night long - kind of like growling, rumbling and rolling but I know that it is coming from my bowels.  It's almost crazy the amount of noise that it makes for hours at a time.  Has anyone experienced this?

LIQUIDS UGH - CHEATING ALREADY!

Nov 14, 2007

Well, I started liquids today and am purely MISERABLE.  I'm very scared about it, because I have already cheated.  I am only 4.5 hours into the day and I ate lunch! - I feel awful.  All I've heard is you MUST follow the rules and I'm already breaking them.  Any advice would be much appreciated.  If I truly had the will power to do this then I wouldn't be overweight, so any suggestions will be greatly valued.

STILL QUESTIONING

Oct 01, 2007

Hello everyone, My name is Shannon, I'm 35 years old and scheduled to have the gastric sleeve next month. I have to say that I am very scared, not about the surgery, but scared that I will regret it down the road. I'm hoping by writing this that I can get some insight from past patients on a few things that need some clarifying. 1. Do any of you regret the procedure? 2. Do you get mad at yourself because your not able to eat foods that you once loved? 3. I'm an occassional social drinker - so for those of you who were just that - do you miss it or are you EVER able again to have a drink or two later down the road? 4. Does it look ridiculous when you are out to dinner with friends that you might only be able to finish 1/4 or less of your plate? 5. For those long term patients are you still drinking protein shakes? 6. How long truely is recovery? 7. I heard that you feel very tired for several weeks after surgery - is this true? 8. What is the one side effect you seem to have? Thanks for listening. I could really use some help in this. I'm so excited about having this permanent fix done, however, I have my days when I'm second guessing myself and mainly for the reasons above. This is the first forumt aht I have joined and I would appreciate all the feddback I can get. Thansk Shannon     — Shannon T
