Day 8 of clear liquid pre-op diet

Feb 19, 2009

It is day 8 of the clear liquids and I can only say that Bill Cosby can keep his stupid jello as far as I'm concern.  I did find ,if you make it into jigglers, it seems more like you are eating something more substantial.  Still, there isn't much you can do with broth, Popsicles, jello, and decaf tea. Ugh!  My sweet husband is doing the diet with me to make it easier on me not to have to  see real food.  He is sooo good to me.  I am amazed at how i haven't been hungry, until I'm in the car driving past restaurants and fast food dives and then I think to myself how good that junk sounds.  Old habits die hard.  I don't know how much weight I have lost as I forgot to set my scale to line up with my surgeons scale.  I can feel that I have lost some but how much is still a mystery. The thought of having to go to the hospital without ANY makeup on has me a little concerned since being 54 yrs. old is kind of scary without at least lipstick!

Things are moving really fast

Jan 30, 2009

Dr. Van Wagner's office just called and my surgery date is Feb.23 barring any complications with my cardiac clearance from my GP.  I go Feb. 10th for pre-op blood work ,EKG, etc.  I am starting my low fat, low carb, diet now so my liver is in great shape for surgery.  I have to do the clear liquid diet 10 days prior to surgery, so I thought I would start tapering off now so I don't so so crazy on day one!  Good Bye nachos, hello Victoria's Secret!  ( and not for just the fragrances!)

I'M Approved

Jan 30, 2009

At the beginning of January, I was covered under a new insurance plan through my husband's employer.  I went to see a bariatric surgeon, Dr. Van Wagner, in St. Louis, Mo. to see if I would qualify for gastic bypass surgery.  After a thorough consultation, he felt that I was a good candidate for RNY.  He was a very caring dr. and took time to answer any questions I had.  I had attended a seminar that he held in Nov. of 08, so this session was a more indepth session to answer any of my concerns and to further explain the procedure and its risks.
After his office manager Sara pre-certified me for surgery, and another office employee Brittany, went over paperwork and such they set up a psych and nutrition appt. for the following week to get the process started.  All went smoothly with that and I got my GP to write his recommendation for surgery as he and I had been discussing this avenue for me for sometime.
My paper work was sent to BCBS at 10:30 am. today and I just received the call from my insurance at 3:15 pm. saying I was approved!  A total of less than 5 hours for approval, now that is God at work in my opinion.  My prayer had been, if this wasn't what God wanted for my life, I would accept that.  I am a firm believer in prayer, it's just the answers that throw me a curve ball sometimes.  I am so thankful and trust the HE will see me through this journey!l
