Five years out and feeling great!
Jul 10, 2015
I am five years out from VSG and am doing well. I have found my happy place. It is not a number on a scale, but a size that I am good with. For me it is a 14. I just had plastic surgery to remove skin from my abdomen and hips. All the way around, and it was some surgery, but so glad I did it. My husband and I were dancing at my niece's wedding a month ago as I wore my first fitted dress and heels in Lord knows how long. As we were dancing I looked over in the mirror and he looked at the same time and I was like OMG, honey, I look skinny! He response, "You are beautiful and skinny." I am a lucky girl, both with the love of my life who loved me for my heart and endured this crazy journey with me. Blessings and much success to you all.
3 years out!
Mar 17, 2013
Today I am 3 years out and absolutely love the VSG. I don't struggle with anything. I just quit eating when I am full. I will fluctuate between 2 to 3 pounds, but never even worry about that.
I didn't lose any for a long time and all of a sudden have started losing again. Probably due to walking more because we are building a house and go out to check on it and walk the dogs.
I always have aimed for a size 12, and am a size 14, but I do realize that when I have this excess skin removed, I will be a 12. I still want to lose 10 more pounds. I love my life and that I can do anything I want. I have started running/jogging, and have set a goal to do a 5K in the Fall. I think literally one of my favorite things is knowing that whatever store I am shopping at, I can find something to fit!
I remember Dr. Barker saying that even out to 3 years you can still lose and it is true. I am so thankful to VSG, and would suggest it to anyone over any other surgery for weight loss. Best wishes to all of you in your journey and God Bless you.
Four days post op

Dr. Barker ended up having to remove the band, repair the esophogus, fix a hernia, remove adhersions and do the sleeve. Was a bit more than I anticipated! But glad it is all behind me. Couldn't get fluid down the first two days because of swelling at site of hernia repair. Now doing pretty well and thinking I don't need pain meds today.
Dr. Barker inserted the pain pump ino my surgical site and it helps so much. That is the second time I had that. Huge difference in the amount of pain you feel. Skin is starting to itch around the staples. That means it's healing, so that's a good thing.
Got abou 48 ounces of fluid down yesterday and 60 grams of protein. Aiming for the same or a bit more fluids. Water doesn't taste right yet. Crystal light and gatorade tastes the best. Can't do the broth because I do not eat salt and soup has huge amounts of salt. Even the low sodium. Very hard to get used to sipping such small amounts of fluid at a time. It's like a job getting it all in!
Can't wait to weigh!
Ready.
