3 years old!

Nov 03, 2008

Nov 1 was my third year surgiversary. I am maintaining easily below goal, enjoying very good health. I have had a few low lab values that were easily taken care of by tweaking my supplements a little.. I have gone from a very tight 22 to a size 4. I am so much spunkier than I used to be, without all of that weight holding me back physically and emotionally.  I feel younger now than I did through my 30’s. I have gained so much more self confidence now. And I actually love shopping for clothes, and exercising! I have not had any plastic surgery, I doubt if I will go that route. Although it would be nice to have a perfectly flat stomach, my skin is really not any worse than any other woman who has had four babies. I was really blessed with good genetics in that department.

Now, for a really HUGE for me wow moment! When I was a teen, I took martial arts for about six weeks, and then quit. There was a little bit of a personality conflict between my instructor and me. I have always regretted quitting. About nine months ago, I started taking Taekwondo lessons, as something to do with my son. I freaking love it! Well, yesterday, on my very three year surgiversary date, I tested for my gold belt! This was a really intense test, requiring a two mile run, 100 sit ups, 50 pushups, and three hours of drills.  I totally rocked the test! This former fat chick was moving in total ninja style, and keeping up with the other much younger people with no problem!

I totally love my DS, and my surgeon who gave me my life back. Thanks Dr. M for giving me the chance to get in the game, instead of watching from the sidelines!

Tae Kwon Do!

Jan 21, 2008

Am I Too Old???

I started Tae Kwon Do for the first time last week. It's real fun, I am enjoying it. It is something I have always wanted to do, plus, I get to do it with my two kids, which is a blast. Oh yeah, and since the instructor is someone from my church, I am getting the lessons for free! Absolutely perfect! And we got to spar yesterday, which was a blast!

But..... Ok, I have at least 10 years on anyone else in the class (cept the instructor, but he is used to it! Plus, he's a former Marine, I am a former fatty...). 15 or 20 or 30 on some.... Can I physically keep up?

I mean, I'm not a complete couch potato, but hiking and yoga are more my things.....
This is what I am wondering. Will my body adjust to the pace of the class, or will it break down from the stress because it is not used to it?

Any other time I have started a work out plan, I was free to increase at my own pace. But this is different because of the group setting. I seem to keep up alright ( with a few concessions to my age, such as doing "girl" push-ups instead of regular), but the next day, hoo chee mama! My butt muscles have been cramping like crazy! Walking up the stairs, I feel like an 80 year old!

I guess it's hard to know, with it only being two classes so far. It will be interesting to see if my bod can adjust to the sudden increase of stress, or not...... I'm hoping it does, it's so much fun!

update

Oct 17, 2007

I have started taking Nexium, and it made a huge difference with the nausea. I still struggle to maintain weight, but it is not as bad. I have recently started regaining some muscle mass.
On a personal note, DD #1 is at Navy bootcamp right now. She is doing real well.
Ok, so my life is extremely dull, so there is not much to tell. Oh and I am going to Hawaii in November! I am so excited about that, since last time I was there, I weighed 248 lbs, and really struggled to even walk.

what a difference

Aug 09, 2007

You know, I was working on changing my profile to the new format, and in the process, I was reading a little bit. On October 19th, I wrote about the process of getting to Brazil, and how I was a rather shy timid person...
I would no longer describe myself that way. I can't believe how much that part of my personality has changed. I am rather fiesty now.  I mean, I can still be reserved around people I don't know too well, but I would never say timid now...

Setting a timer!

Aug 09, 2007

7/25/2007

Back down to size 2 or 0 again. With the heat of summer, I seem to have lost my appitite, so I am having to work hard to eat enough. I now set a timer for every two hours, and when it goes off, I eat whether I feel like it or not. Seems to be working, and on days that I am faithful with it, I sometimes actually get my appitite back.
