Hello again ....4 years down

Oct 24, 2011

OK it's been 4 years today and I am still do well. The food thing gets easier. I have gained back some of my weight, but I am still a size 14 and it's so much better then the 24 I use to wear. Plastic surgery is still a plan down the road sometime. I wasn't as compliant as I should have been, exercise ( ewww). Well I have had a friend resently run a half marthon and I got to thinking that if she could do it so could I so I found a plan online and just started that. It's perfect for me "simple" and doesn't take a lot of time.
I still work as a OB nurse, love it. However, I am looking for a secound job to fill my time as my children have gone off to college and I need to fill my days.
So goodluck to all who are having surgery. Please remeber that you are responsible for your health so follow the instructions for after as well as before. Even though this surgery has been around for over 20 years, the medical community still is clueless as to how to treat us . So we must inform them as to our special needs. I as a nusre find myself informing my fellow nurses when we have a patient that has had the surgery. So when they ask you about your allergies this would be a good time to tell them about your needs and the meds that you cannot have.

It has slowed down "waa"!!

You get so spoiled... use to losing, that when you don't it is very dishearting. Howvever I console myself with the fact that I am now a size 12... which is half the size I use to be and that men are starting to flirt with me again. My 16 year old daughters are somewhat unnerved by this. My husband does not know. I have been told that I also got younger .." this I like". My back is great I can't remeber the last time it hurt, my new doctor does not think I will need surgery for along time now as long as I  strengthing my core muscle. I have been bad though I really have not been working out like I am suppose to . However I do work 12 hour shifts and I have clocked it a couple of times and I am getting well over the 10, 000 steps as I am a OB nurse and we rarely sit for long ..if ever lately. I am haveing trouble regulating my blood sugar lately .... it has been dropping rather fast. This could be due to the extra protein reqiurements on my body as I did start working out with a trainer to tone up. I have had to start carring OJ and peanutbutter crackers with me at all times as the glucose tablets are not as effective.
THE BEST THING FOR LOW BLOOD SUGAR IS JUICE FIRST THAN A SLOW BURNING CARB  WITH PROTEIN ,CRACKERS AND PEANUT BUTTER ARE GREAT.  and see your MD.

It has been almost 11 months now

Sep 11, 2008

I have been so busy and the pounds have been just melting off--- not as fast I would have like sometimes. I am loving shopping for clothes now and it is so weird shopping on the skinny side of the store now, I catch myself still wondering over to the womens sizes out of habit. I am almost small enough to fit in those sparkly pants of my daughters , maybe by Oct, if I can, I will wear them to my one year appointment, sometime in Oct. The 23 will be a year. I have found that thrift stores are great and I just donate the out grown clothes back to the thrift store. My feet have even gotten thinner. Funny thing is my bra size is not going down like I though, not the cup size anyway, however gravity has not been kind. My skin is shrinking back pretty good I had though I would need a body lift or skin removed from my abdomin, my arms I am still praying that they are not as flabby when I am done. My diet is up and down as I work alot of 12 hour night shifts. I have lost a lot of hair and have been fortunate to find a hairdressers who knows how to cut it just right  as it does not look thin and I still have long hair. I have found that slimfast makes low carb meal drink that has 20gms of protienhowever read the labels they also make a high protein one that only has 15gms of protein. Cheese sticks are great and beef jerky too. If you like cottage cheese it is a great source of protein. I have become lactose intolerant and milk makes me sick to my stomach. The lactose free milk yuk , but I do mix it with the carnation chocolate breakfast mix and it is great. I crave fruit now "watermelon" is my fave.
I have sick days , but it is usually because I ate too much or something I shouldn't have. Blood sugar  drops sometimes but I have always had a problem with it so I know the signs and drink juice than it a slow carb. peanut butter crackers work for me.
Got to go- take care and for me this has been a great year.

40lbs - 40 lbs - 40 lbs !!!

Jan 17, 2008

Good news... I passed my boards and I am now a LPN yea!!!
I have interviewed for my first nursing job and am waiting for an answer as we speak. I applied in OB one of my favorite places and as of now they do not have an opening , but they are trying to create a PRN position for me. I am so nervous and am rereading my books. I am afraid that I may have forgotten some of my training since May . Lord knows there was a lot of information thrown at me in a short time and I do not want to make a mistake when it comes to babies.
Ok Iam getting back on tract now. 40lbsdown and getting ready to buy my next size down in pants ... 20. WOW I haven't seen that size in 8 years.
I am going to have to buy new bras too I am on the smallest setting now and I need the support, gravity has not been kind.
My daughters are starting to make fun of my baggy pants. I think it may be time to buy a belt..

9 weeks and a day since surgery, 34.2 lbs down yea!!!

Dec 26, 2007

I made it thru the holidays and am getting use to the eatting routine. Heres my way of looking at it ,"I can eat just about anything I want ", just not much of it thats all. And it is the taste that I want any way- not the amount.
I finally bought new pants and now they are starting to get lose on me too.
I've been getting into some of my old clothes agian and they are lose on me too. This is wonderful.
I had some problems a few weeks back. I was stalled and not lossing and I got some good advice from Weston and Gages Grammie M. She told me that she had the same thing happen to her and that she was not eating enough and that her body had went into starvation mode. Well I beefed up my eatting and began to lose agian. Strange to think of ME not eatting enough, but now I do. I get sick of eatting some times and I slack.
Here are some of the foods that I eat to get my protien. Cheese sticks, cottage cheese, tuna, weight control oatmeal (banana bread)made with milk, carnation breakfest drinks, eggs and turkey. I have tried those baratric protein drinks," yuk", exspensive and gross. The rice cakes "Quakes" are great and come in many flavors- chocolate is my Fva. Not much protein though. For those who love ice tea , lipton with two splenda packets is great on the go, in the glass bottle.
Well till next time - good luck all
Merry Christmas

3 Weeks and 2 days post op down 18 1/2 pounds 11/ 15/ 07

Nov 15, 2007

Hello everyone. I have been lucky no throwing up , yea!!! Have had some nausea and "fun fun ", constipation.  Went for my 2 week  follow up on the 5th of November and was down 17 pounds.
I have hit my first plattue..... How long do they last?????
Good news is I can eat soft foods yea!!! My clothes are getting looser and my girls (15 yrs old) say that my face is getting smaller.  I am looking forward to having to buy the next size down in pants 22, I refuse to buy new clothes till I can get down to a 22.  I also have some smaller clothes in my closet that I am waiting to put back on agian without having to suck it in or lay on the bed to zip. Thank God that most of my scrub pants have draw strings.

On a differant note I am working on one of my goals ... I have stared the paper work to get approved to take my nursing boards.
After I herniated a disc in my lower back , I wasn't sure if anyone would hire me and it cost $450 to test, which is non refundable.
I have deciced  that I have to complete what I started and at least try.

I am Home 4 days after surgery

Oct 27, 2007

Everything went well my Doc said that I made it look easy. I'm just good at hiding my pain. Actually it went better than I thought and everyone was right. THANKYOU all for your advice and help.  I am just trying to get the diet down and am looking for some more veriaty now. I know that the paperwork says not to use straws but, I have found that for me straws work better. I don't get as much gas as when I drink from a cup. And I am down 4lbsYEA!!! I am not sure which weight to use the one I had at my first Doc. appointment or the one the day before the surgery. The first one is, I beleive, more accurate as at the 2nd one I was wearing my shoes and bloated due to my cycle starting that day.
Well my weight was 286.6 and it is 282.6 today.
Well got to go my Bullwhinkle alarm just went off, someones in the drive, got to go check.

10/20/07 Three days till surgery

Oct 20, 2007

I am flexuating between fear and excitement.  I leave for Ft. Collins on Monday and my fist appointment is at 11:30 am with my surgeon Dr, Dickinson, then at 1pm with the nutritionist and then preregistration at the hospital at 3pm. I will be staying at a hotel that night and check-in at the hospital Tuesday morning at 7am, surgery starts at 9am and can take up to 3 hours.
I have packed a tub full of supplies and a blender as I will being staying in a hotel for a few days after I am discharged. I live too far to go home right away and need to be close to the hospital in case of complications. The hospital has someone who can get me a room at a discount, Yea!!
To catch you up I had to have my head examined first . That was fun.
She caught me on a hormonal day, needless to say I had to see her again a few days later, I was happy again, whew that was close. She must have though I was a NUT the first day. And my insurance paid for it YEA!!! Then she took two weeks to type up the report and I had her fax it not mail it as we were getting down to the wire and I still did not have my insurances' OK. It got OK'd this last Wensday. Now I am just trying to eat all my favorite foods before Monday and I had Thangsgiving two weeks ago so I won't miss it. I know that after the surgery I will have to change the way I eat  and I am ok with that, but till Monday I am going to enjoy.
Soon as I figure out how I will put a picture up and you can all see my before
shot.
PS. I have not been able to locate a support group in my area , if anyone knows of one please let me know. I live in Rozet Wyoming.
