Update
Jan 24, 2011
Today my weight is 245#. That's an 8# weight loss in 1 week. I have been walking my mile a day as instructed and getting in my fluids. Protein intake is between 60 & 70 gmas per day with fluids between 50 & 60 per day. I can honestly say that I am not hungry, but I make myself adhere to the dietary requirements. I see the Dr. again next Monday and will do another update at that time.

Surgery Post

The pre-surgery time really started on Sunday 1/09/11 when I started the clear liquid diet and the bowel prep. Needless to say, it was not a fun time. the liquid prep was not too bad with the flavoring, but it wasn't the tasteist either.
Surgery day 1/10/11: had to be at the hospital by 5AM which meant I had to be up by 2:30A to do the pre-op shower and get dressed. Then an hour and 15 minute drive to the hospital. Thank goodness it wasn't blowing snow that day.
My surgery was exactly 1 hour and they found a hiatal hernia that was also repaired.
I don't remember too much about the recovery room, but I do remember getting to my room.
I had the pain pump that helped trememdously, and I was not feeling any pain that day. Up that evening to walk, and it actually felt good.
1/11/11: Urinary catheter was removed and then up walking and started clear liquids. They wern't he greatest, but it was something on my stomach.
1/12/11: Discharged to home. The ride was not too good due to the bumps from the snow plows, but I got home safely. I slept in the recliner for the night with a pillow on my stomach to prevent the cats from torchuring me.
1/13/11: I felt pretty good this day, and overdi it. Diarrhea with farts and not a pleasant experience. Slept in the recliner again
1/14/11: NOT A GOOD DAY: Feeling nauseaous and tired. Spent most of the day in the recliner, and spent the night there also.
1/15/11: Great day and feeling almost human again. Working on the protein and the fluids.

I have been a "lurker" of OH for about 3 months. I have learned many many things form reading the postings. I have a surgery date for VSG on January 10, 2011. I am both scared and excited and Iknow that with all of your help, I will succeed. I am probably older than most, being 60. But I have jumped through the insurance hoops and finally have been scheduled.
Thanks for being there for us newbies.
