I am a 36 year old wife and mother of 2 boys. I didn't always use to be over weight, but I have had times in my life when I was chubby and had to watch what I ate and exercise more. When I became pregnant with my first child I only weighed 114 lbs my first visit. I was a smoker until I became pregnant, I ended up gaining around 60 lbs, I think mainly from trying to keep from smoking. Over the next few years I stayed around the 170 lb mark. Five years after my first child I became pregnant again. This time I gained a total of 1 lb. I started out a 174 and the last appt. I had I weighed 175. After my son was born I remember standing in the bathroom just staring at myself amazed. I now weighed 154! It had been many years since I weighed that little. I am not sure what happened. I stopped working to stay at home and raise my kids. We lived in the middle of no where and I did not have a drivers license. I think I just ate because I was bored,. When I hit the 200 mark I went on a diet and managed to lose 30 lbs. After a few months I started to gain the weight back, plus some.  I decided to stop smoking (again) and before long I was up to 250 lbs! Once again I decided to try a diet.  This was the last week of June 2008. By the first week of December I was down to 195 ! I was so excited. On top of losing 55 lbs during this time I also managed to finally at the age of 35 get a drivers licenses. Things were looking good. I was feeling better, I walked an hour everyday, plus did strength training at least 3 days a week. My blood pressure was back down, I went to a lower dose of my cholesterol medicine.  Then the holidays hit. At first I was still managing to eat right, just not walk everyday like I was,. It wasn't long till I wasn't eating right and the weight started to come back on. By December 2009 I had managed to gain all the weight back plus some!
In November 2009 my best friend and I decided to attend a weight loss lecture at the hospital near us. After listening to the surgeon we both decided that we were ready to try weight loss surgery. About a week after the lecture I got a call from someone who does a check to see if your insurance covers the surgery  to inform my that even though my insurance offers coverage for surgery, my husbands employer listed wls as not covered. I was very depressed. I managed to gain 10 more lbs after hearing this. After talking with my husband, he decided that we would self pay for me to have the surgery. I called to see what the cost of surgery would be if I self paid. I just could not see paying $25,000 dollars on myself! We are in need of moving to a bigger house, and I would just feel guilty if we had to continue to live in a house that was too small just so I could have wls!
I have numerous health issues that are weight related, and my husband pointed out, that if I didn't lose weight and get healthy I might not be on this earth much longer, and that him and the children would much rather have me around than a bigger house. My best friend then mentioned going to another country to have the surgery. After some research I came across Dr.Aceves. I have literally spent hours and hours reading everything everyone has to say about Dr. Aceves, his staff, and the hospital.  I have been unable to find one bad word about any of them. I am in the processes of getting everything together for the surgery. I am hoping to schedule surgery for the beginning of April.
