Hi all! Sept. 27 will be my actual 1 year anniversary, but my photos were put up already, so I figured I'd post now. I had my Lap DS with Dr. Hazem Elariny(the best) at Fairfax Hospital and to date have lost 156 pounds. I chose the DS because it semed to provide a more normal eating allowance for the future. It worked out extremely well. I can eat ANYTHING I desire, but only eat portions that are the same size as "normal" people. I am completely satisfied with that. When I am hungry...I eat. I was fortunate to have a wonderful recovery with no complications (other than the usual hernia!) and no hair loss. I take the Vita4life vitamins and my blood work has remained normal. I had a hernia repair and TT on 8-13-02 and am having some trouble with the healing of the incision, but am confident all will work out well...and how nice it is to look down at a flat tummy!!!I have no desire to have any more PS (although I could use it!) as I had this surgery for health reasons, and am thrilled with where I am. Goal is probably another 30 pounds away, but if I stay here and my incision heals up fine...I'm happy and have won the battle. I have a life again...a life worth living...Thanks be to God!!!! And Dr. Elariny, and Dr. Turgeon, and Dr. Morse, and my incredible DH, great kids, wonderful Mom, and supportive friends. I couldn't have done it without any of you!!! Check out my new photos!!! Good luck to all of you wherever in your journey you are. God Bless You all!!! You've all been so great!!!

Hi Barb: I had the same drainage about my 8 day checkup and my insision came open and had to heal in a couple months or alittle longer. If your insision is draining that much now I would get to see your surgeon as soon as possible to make sure you dont have a absess or something. does It smell bad? that is a clue that it may be an absess. I dont mean to scare you and I hope I didnt but I would see about it as soon as possible. Please let me know how you are in a few days. Thank you for alowing me to help. Barbara I live in Manassas and have been thinking more and more lately that I should look into the DS type surgery. I am approved for surgery and have a surgery date for Oct 1 for the RNY, but I have been having second thought. One of the things that I keep reading though is that with the DS you don't have the "dumping" problem...however, with me..sweets is a weakness....so maybe the dumping would be a good thing for me...a negative reinforcment so to speak. Was just wondering what sorts of things made you choose the DS version? How long did it take you to get the appt with the doc in Alex? and how long to schedule a surgery? Does he do both types? Thanks a million Lori
