it has been a while

I had my third fill on Tuesday May 15th and I can finally feel that thing that has been avoiding me......restricition.  I lost another 3lbs since the last dr visit and again the dr was amazed at what I looked like and the fact I only lost three lbs.  I have had to buy all new spring clothes which is a great NSV but I would like to have a few SV's.  I now have 2cc's in my 4cc band.  This morning I tried to eat my normal breakfast and my friend the band was not having any part of ceral and banana.  I don't think I am to tight, liquids go down fine and last night I was able to eat something soft but solid with no issues.  I will give it a few days more before I think that I may actually be to tight.  My DH and I are leaving for our vacation, Las Vegas on May 27th so I will need to make up my mind about the restriciton next week sometime so I don't have any issues while away.  I am hopefull that this restricition is what I was hoping for and I just need to adjust me eating so not to SLIME.
Even with out the massive weight lose I would not trade in my band for anything, I have not gained any weight in the past four months so I am looking at my band as a blessing anyway.
It has been a very exciting Spring for me as usual, my DH and I celebrated our 4 year wedding anniversay, boy time flys, his birthday and on Monday I will be celebrating my birthday also, I wish it was a lower number but hey we take what we can get, right?
I have been feeling great, I would never know that I had surgery, all of incesions of healed well and the only time I remember my port is when I hit it with something because I was not thinking.
I am lucky in so many ways.
I also hope the next time I update that I have a SV

Things are going well.  I started back to the gym last week.  I went 5 times and did 45 minutes of cardio walking over 2.5 miles each day.  Day one was good, day two was good and on day three I thought I was going to have a heart attack.  My leg muscles hurt, my body hurt but I was a trooper and finished the 45 minutes.
The scale is still not moving as much as I wish it would.  It is officially 20 lbs lost since I started my pre op liquids on Jan 8th.  I feel good, my incisions have healed well so I have no complaints.  My body is still changing almost daily.  All of my clothes are either fitting perfectly or way to big.  I have not yet desided what to do with my dress clothes, take them to the tailor or not??? Food is no longer the thing I live for.  I am trying something new this week, I am only going to eat three meals a day, no snacks and see if that helps motivate the scale to move some.  I see the dr on 3/30 and would like to be down at least five lbs. that would make me happy.
Well Happy St Patricks Day to everyone!

I made it thru my first fill

Feb 28, 2007

Yesterday was my 5 week visit with the surgeon.  I have had a good five weeks regarding recovery and getting used to my new best friend, my lap band.  I have not really had many problems with food, every once in a while something strange will feel stuck, but that really isn't the correct way to describe the feeling either, it is more pressure under my breast bone which tells me something is not right. A drink of water clears the feeling up.
I had a small break down a few weeks ago, I have been eating everything I should, I have reduced my caloric intake to about 1/3 of what I used to eat and I was not lossing any weight.  I then realized that I had become the incredible schrinking women.  I didn't realize how many inches I had lost until I put on a pair of dress pants and they almost fell off of my hips.

I went to the dr yesterday for my four week follow up visit, he took one look at me and said "you look great, how much weight do you think you lost"  I said only a few lbs and it was true, in the five weeks since I saw him last I only lost 2.5 lbs and lots of inches.  He was very happy with my progress and was almost not going to give me a fill.  I explained to him that I was in a mental phase, I was dieting and controlling my portions not because I was not hungry but was afraid something would get suck, I would hurt myself etc.  He understood and gave me a 1cc fill.
The fill was strange.  He numbed the area and gave me the fill.  I drank a little water and could see it was going down a bit slower then it had been the past few weeks.  I guessed that was some form of resriction.  As I was making my next appointment I realized that I had a 1/2 dollar size wet spot on my shirt where my port is.  The dr looked at it and it was slightly pink in color.  We alcoholed it up and sent me on my way.  While I was driving I put a napkin on the same spot just in case and again a dime size spot appeared.  I now wonder if I have lost some of my fill.

This morning my restriction seemed to be the same as it was the day before my fill when I drank the first thing in the AM.  I am still on liquids today so I will see more tommorow if I feel any different.

I was nervous about the fill seeing as I had never had one before and I must say, it was not that bad.

I made it thru the surgery...day 5

Jan 26, 2007

I made it thru the surgery and I am doing well.  The first two days were uncomfortable but not unbareable.  I have already lost 8 lbs this week on clear liquids which is great.  I have no appetiate which is also a plus.  I am trying my best to drink my liquids to keep hydrated which when you have not appetiate is hard.  I am down to only taking tylenol at night to sleep for pain which is really only mild discomfort.  I am going crazy being in the house all day.  We have had a mild winter in NJ so far and all that changed this week when the temp. dropped into the single digits and teens during the day so I don't think I will be walking around my neighborhod this week.  I think I will be ready to return to work on Monday as planned, I hope my boss doesn't mind me taking a mid day nap in my office LOL
Thanks to evryone for all their support.  This wedsite has been very imformative during this process and for that I am very greatful :)

1/15/07 day 8 of pre op liquid diet

Jan 15, 2007

Today is day eight of my liquid diet and things are going swimmingly well thanks! My husband has lost 12 lbs and I lost 8 so far.
I had my endoscopy done last Tuesday everything came out OK, no h pylori which the dr was concerned I may have, just some gastrius which if gets any worst nothing a daily Nexium would not fix.  Had two engagements this weekend that were of course food related.  My god daughters birthday party, she turned 6 :) I had already cleared with the dr a plate of salad would not hurt me, so that is what I had, which was like eating filet mignon LOL.  I was almost afraid to eat anything in fear I may get sick to my stomach.  But all that worked out.  On Sunday we had a brunch for my brother in laws Bday, nice fresh bagels, lox, cream cheese the works and I eat a hard boiled egg, white only and veggies.  I wasn't even hungry, not craving anything not even cake.  So I think I am on the right track.

I have one week to go and I will be on the lossing side with everyone else.

I made it thru....

Jan 10, 2007

Ok I made it thru my endoscopy yesterday, no real issues.  The dr found some inflamation at the bottom of my stomach and the top of my small instestines.  He took a biopsy to make sure it was nothing really serious but he thinks it is H Pylori bateria causing the inflamation and an antibiotic should clear it up.
I also made it thru day three of my liquid preop diet.  The shakes taste OK but would rather have something savory rather then sweet so I am drinking a lot of broth soups which are more satisfying to me.  I am making sure to get the protein shakes in so not to make myself sick in the next two weeks.

I have one small obstacle I must clear on Saturday...my god daughters birthday party which I must attend.  My husband is having more of an issue with the party then I am.  My plan, which I think is a darn good one is to drink a nice thick shake before we arrive at the party, drink lots of water and diet soda to be social and when it comes to dinner time, take a little salad which the dr said I could eat if really need to eat and milk that for my supper.  My very supportive husband is also drinking liquids with me for the two week pre op, I told him he could eat something small as to not draw attention to the fact that we are not eating and just chalk it up to a New Years diet we are on.

PS:  I have desided not to tell everyone about the surgery yet, my sister doesn't need the stress of worrying about me and the rest of the family although they would be supportive of my decsion I just rather keep to the very few people who need to know what is going on with me.  I will share the experience after it is all over and done with.

Two weeks and counting...

Jan 08, 2007

Today I start my two week liquid diet phase. Over the weekend we stocked up on protein powder, cleaned out the refrigerator of any crap and started fresh this morning.
It is about 12:30 pm in NJ and so far so good.  My boss just teased me that it was lunch time for everyone but Dorothy LOL. I just hope that the empty, hungary feelings doesn't show its ugly head.

Tomorrow morning I go into the hospital for my endsocopy.  I had one a few years ago and I know it will be a piece of cake.
Oh let me rephrase that, it will be easy.  LOL

It has been hard :(

Dec 14, 2006

I have been able to maintain my weight for much of the past year, ever since I started this process in August I have gained 10 lbs and can't seem to loose it no matter how hard I try to diet.
Between Sept and November my husband and I took two vacation trips and although I exercised on both trips I gained weight because I was off my routine and eating all the wrong foods.

I have been back to work for one and half weeks and have attended two very nice holidays luncheons for my company and again I have been making the wrong choices when it comes to eating.  I think my mind is still on vacation when it comes to watching what I am eating.  I am usually very good about what I eat but I quess my mind knows that in one month all the fun is going to end and the reality of what I have choosen to do kicks in.

I am very excited about the journey 2007 has in store for me, I have been heavy all my life and need help to make myself healthier before all of my bad family medical history catches up with me,

I will need to be on a liquid diet starting January 9th until my surgery and I am so looking forward to that, no real choices have to be made about what I am going to eat, all I can do is drink my protein :)

I have a date....1/22/07

I have coordinated with the doctor and January 22nd will be my first day on the loosing side.  The insurance experience was not painful at all, I was approved thru United Health Care in one week after completing my neccesary evaluations.
