D. Blaine Nease

"I first saw Dr. Nease at his required surgery seminar. There were a number of technical issues and the normal PowerPoint™ presentation was not available. I was extremely impressed by the fact that Dr. Nease knew the material well enough to provide an excellent presentation without the normal props. By drawing simple diagrams, he educated his audience quite effectively. At no point during the presentation did Dr. Nease give the impression that he was short on time; in fact, he stayed until every question was answered. He showed much more patience that I possess when he had to keep answering the same question multiple times from different people!rnrnThe next time I saw Dr. Nease was at his office for my initial consultation. He took plenty of time with me and, although we weren't together more than 15 minutes, he waited until he was sure I had no more questions for him. I never felt rushed or hurried.rnrnThe staff at the Cabel Huntington Center for Surgical Weight Control is a fantastic group of people. Many of his staff are weight loss surgery patients themselves and know exactly what I'm going through. They are friendly and competent.rnrnOne thing that seems like a small issue but to me was a very big deal: the seating in his waiting areas and conference room is conducive to BIG people! The chairs are wide and sturdy. It's really refreshing to see attention paid to such a small detail!rnrnFuture patients should understand that this office is very busy. Also, at the present time (August of 2008), they are still recovering from moving their offices from the hospital to a professional building a few blocks away. Additionally, because of the large number of patients, do not expect to call someone at Dr. Nease's office and have them answer the phone right away. Voice mails returned up to 24 hours later is the rule. Nevertheless, phone calls are ALWAYS returned.rnrnDr. Nease puts a huge emphasis on dietary education. During his initial seminar, Dr. Nease explains that he believe diet changes and a more active lifestyle account for 66% of the weight loss realized from surgery. The surgery itself is only a tool that, in and of itself, will only account for losing 33% of excess body weight. His aftercare priority is on making sure his patients learn how to make smart food choices and keep themselves healthy and well-nourished.rnrnRisks of surgery are a fact of life, and Dr. Nease has no problem explaining those risks. Both in his initial public seminars and the initial private consultation, Dr. Nease ensures that the patient understands all of the potential risks and he does it in a way that makes one able to make an informed decision without irrational fear.rnrnI will rate Dr. Nease overall, discuss his surgical competence and review his bedside manner after my surgery, which is currently scheduled for September 8th!"
