I had my surgery

May 29, 2009

I came home yesterday from the hospital and I wanted to share my experience because it was helpful for me to read about other people's experiences before I had my surgery.

I went in on Wednesday the 27th, had my surgery at 1pm and came out about 4:15pm. I was in the recovery room until 5:30pm. The first night was rough. I didn't sleep much at all. I paced around my room mostly but I also roamed the halls a couple of times. The pain pump they gave me didn't seem to help much and I was LOADED with gas. It was almost comical the things I was trying to get myself some relief. The next morning they came in with ice chips and explained how many I was to have in an hour. I was afraid mostly of overdoing it so I took it easy. They also brought me some jello, broth and crystal light for lunch and dinner. I had small tastes of each but not too much. I had to have medicine twice for nausea. After giving me the second dose of Fenergan(sp?) I slept for about 5 hours. I felt MUCH better when I woke up and the nurse explained to me that I should be taking in at least 3 oz of ice chips an hour so I tried with all my might to get it down and woohoo I did it! I kept up that pace in between dozing and walking and the next morning they brought me some eggs. I got them down with no problem. I got my shower and all my meds and came home on day 3.

I hope that this blog is helpful for other people about to get surgery and don't quite know what to expect.
