Happy Birthday to ME!

Apr 30, 2011

Well, today's my 38th birthday...
I think the best birthday present I've gotten is the one I gave myself back in December!  I'm down to 230 pounds, the lightest I've been in a long time!  Nothing fits right, even my old "skinny-ish" clothes!  Since I don't want to spend a lot on clothes I'm only going to wear for a couple of months I've become well acquainted with a few local resale shops.  I've even found one that wants to take my old (dare I say fat) clothes on consignment! I have bought new scrubs, though, since I have to wear them every day, but even they look like clown clothes - especially my pants.  The waistbands come up almost to my boobs!  Oh well, that's better than the alternative of filling them out completely like I used to do!
My only complaint is that my hair is falling out by the brush-full. Three brushes full per day, at least.  I have always worn my hair super long (butt length), only cutting it to my shoulders twice before in my entire life, but Thursday night I went and got it all whacked off again.  I don't like myself with short hair, but it's less depressing to empty my brush when it doesn't look so full!  Maybe I'll do something else with it, like put lime green streaks in it, or something.  After all, it's only hair, right? It will grow back eventually, right? AARRRGGHHH!  I guess cutting my hair is really nothing compared to having the gastric bypass!
Well, I hope whoever reads this finds some humor or inspiration.  Have a great day!

I can't believe I really did this!

Dec 31, 2010

Well, surgery was Monday morning.  I got to pick my surgical team since I work at the hospital where I had the procedure done (just in a different operating room).  Everything went totally by-the-book, YEAH!  First hurdle behind me.  Slept pretty much all of Monday.  Tried to get up to walk but was sooo dizzy.  Never experienced that after general anesthesia before so my guess is that it wasn't the anesthesia but the actual surgery that caused that.  First attempt was a colossal failure.  I waited a while, let the dizziness & nausea pass and tried again...SUCCESS!!!  Everytime I needed to get up for anything I took a lap or 2 around the floor.  I was discharged on Wednesday and was so happy to be back at home in my own bed, but I sleep on my side and I can't get comfortable in bed on my back so I've been sleeping in the recliner...UNCOMFORTABLE!  I want my bed back. Hopefully I'll be able to get back in bed, on my side, by next week.  Well, as for the numbers...
Highest weight ever: 318 lbs
Lost down to 295 on my own & kept it off for over a year
Lost another 8 lbs on pre-op diet
weighed after surgery while walking halls: 292.2 (up a couple of lbs. probably due to IV fluids, swelling, etc.)
Weight as of 10:00 this am: 279.6

YEAH!

I can't wait for my post-op (on Monday 1-3) so I can get this stupid drain out!  That's where most of my pain is coming from.  That'll be hurdle #2!
