Jonathan Aranow

"My first impression of DR. Aranow was that he was very knowledgable about what he does as a bariatric surgeon, this was at the seminar about the gastric banding and bypass. My first meeting with him in his office was, well a little surprising from the last time. He seemed to be overly sure of himself but he did know what the patient needed. Cocky one minute, professional the next. The day I was having my surgey I asked him a question about the gastric bypass. I said my other Dr told me something and I asked if it were true. He stated \"no he's stupid\", then lightly appologized after reading my chart and then said I'll see ya in the operating room. Did I want this man operating on me after he insulted my other Dr? Probably not but I was so set on having this surgery that was going to help change my life for the better, I pretty much had to brush that off after looking at my husband and asking him \"did he just say what I thought he said? Yep! After surgery it was short brief visits at the hospital. Nothing more. His office staff were and still are great! Helpful and concerned. I least like about him would be, needing to be right all of the time because as he has stated to me many times \"it's not my fault this has never happened to me before\". Future patients should know \"EVERYONE\" makes mistakes no matter who you are or what you do proffesionally or personally. Going to see him for follow ups were much better! Recently, He will come in, read my chart, talks to me and finds out what my needs are and where are we going from here. How am I doing? etc. After care is a must, not big on telling me to go to the support groups right now. Who knows anymore, now he comes into the room says HI, then plugs in his laptop and begins typing. I might get a word in or two. If I interupt him he gets a little \"out of place\". He did go over the risks of the surgery but wanted to make sure I was ok with my being sober and drug free for 4 years at that time. Wich I thought was good being that eating is an addiction too. How would I rate him overall? That's pretty hard to say right now. I'm going through some medical issues with him from possibly the surgery. I have gallstones and well, I can't figure why he needs to do exploratory surgery for that. So my rating, if it were to be 1 out of 10 I would probably give him a 5 right now. We'll see what happens later. I'm not sure which is better, his surgical competance, his bedside manner or both are great? I can't answer that right now."
