Well, I am not much for the whole blog thing, but will give it a try. As of today, I am just over 2 months out from RNY and I am down about 75 pounds. I went to Mexico for my surgery. Yes, Mexico. I chose to go there for a few reasons. First, I thought it was the best Doctor and Hospital. Dr. Joya and is team are very experienced and very successful. Second, I liked the idea of 4 nights in the hospital instead of getting kicked out asap like you do here in the US. Then 4 more days of R&R in an oceanfront resort sounded pretty good too. The fact that all that cost about half what it would in the US was a bonus, not the deciding factor for me.
My experience with RNY has been all great. I have not had any problems, but I am very careful about what I eat and chew everything very thoroughly now.
I wrestled with the decision to have WLS for several years. In hindsight, I wish I would have done this years ago, but hindsight 20/20 you know. I also wrestled with the decision to have RNY or Lapband. In the end I chose RNY as I felt if was just better for me. I hate seeing doctors, and the thought of fills and other complications with the band over the RNY was just the choice for me. I figured with the RNY, if I had any complications they would be early in the process. We could get through them and get on with life. The LapBand just seemed to be a long term maintenance issue and a foreign object inside me. Your mileage will vary, just my thoughts on the matter.
