I called today - info meeting scheduled

Dec 23, 2013

I've gotten a lot of flack from friends, some who've even gone through the surgery. They say it isn't worth it, that it doesn't really work long term, and the side effects are horrible (ulcers etc.). One woman told me her mother died from the surgery's effects. I understand the risks. I just know the benefits outweigh them for me personally (no pun intended). I don't' want to be in a wheelchair in my 30s or even 20s.

So I called today for an informational session meeting with Dr. Hill in Saranac Lake about 50 miles from here. The free informational session is on January 3rd, 2014. I think it's the best thing to do just to attend it at least.

My parents say they will help me pay for if my insurance doesn't - on one condition - I have to go down and live with them for about 3 months while I have the surgery, so they know I'm 1) near the doctor 2) safe and sound and 3) following the program correctly. I said I'd have to talk to my fiance about that (they don't get along, my parents and my fiance) and I'd prefer to have it done up here. I will talk to him about it though, hopefully my insurance Fidelis/Medicaid will pay for it , as my BMI is so high and I have 3 doctors who will say it's a medical necessity. Hopefully they will approve it, but with my expensive medications I need I've kind of burned some bridges with the insurance company - nothing I could have done about it however.
