Hi!

I had weight loss surgery on May 24, 2017. A revision from a VBG done nearly 20 years ago to a DS. My stats:

HW - 343 Pre-VBG
SW - 323 5/24/17
CW - 255 9/17/17

Dr. Folohan Ayoola

Baylor Medical Center at Trophy Club, TX

I had a couple of set backs which is not unusual as I was at a high risk for complications because of the kind of revision I had.

I developed pneumonia 2 1/2 weeks after surgery and was readmited to the hospital for a few days. After 5 more weeks of not feeling any better, went back to my GP and the pneumona was gone so she ordered a chest CT since I was still having chest pain.  Thank goodness the radiologist could see some spots that appeared to indicate a leak in my stomach.  I went immediately to the ER where my surgeon was, I say that because I am just over an hour away from where my surgeon it. Always (unless you travel too far) go to the hospital your surgeon is at. They know how to care for bariatric patients and our special needs.

After a EGD, they confirmed an ulcer had caused a perforation in my stomach. That led to a GI consult and a esophageal stent being placed to plug the hole and allow it to heal. Also a consult with an infectious diseas doctor due to the leak and the possible infection in my abdomen. After 11 days in the hospital I went home on TPN (IV Nutrition) and IV antibiotics. I never had any abdominal pain, which from what is heard was a blessing because usually an abdominal infection can be very painful. We apparently caught it early.

Seven weeks later, the stent was removed and the hole was healed enough to start eating again. I still have my Picc line, but it should be removed in a few days when I see my surgeon again. He wanted to make sure I was able to tolerate food before removing it. I only lost about 6 lbs while on the TPN which is not unusual but I am sure that will increase now.

So that's my story.......
