Hello there, my name is Gay and my story is like most of yours.  I have been overweight most of my life.  I remember being so aware of my weight when my grandma from Florida was going to be coming up and we would all diet so she would be proud of us, though she never was.  My entire family has/had weight problems.  Most of my weight came on after I had my 3 daughters.  I was content and happy with my life and the weight just kept coming on.  Back in 2002 I was diagnoised with sleep apnea and only then did I think that weight was affecting my life.  Then in 2004 I was admitted to the hospital for high blood pressure and it was only then that my doctor suggested weight loss surgery.  He gave me the name of a surgeon and I went to see him.  I did all of the tests that they required and when it was all submitted I was denied because the insurance company wanted me to do the 6 month diet and exercise program.  We fought the decision saying I have dieted all my life and could not exercise due to heel spurs and a torn tendon in my heel.  But no good, they still wanted it.  I was so discouraged and gave up for a while. Then I went back and started doing the 6 month thing, but still was afraid of getting denied again.  Finally my girls convinced me to go for it and I found  Dr. Quinlin.  The best thing I could have ever done.  He and his staff were so encouraging and moved me right through the pre-op proccess.  I had to have all of my tests and psyc evaluation redone but they did accept my 6 month work. So this time from start to end was about 3 months.  I had my surgery on October 12, 2006.  My lap RYN went great.  Recovery was uneventful and was even off my pain meds as soon as I got home.  The gas is a killer but other than that, no problems.  I was able to get my liquids and protein in within the week.  I started this journey at 339 pounds and now 3 months later I am at 258, down 81 pounds.  I am lucky, I have no appetite and really have no desire to eat.  For now I get in my protein drink in the morning and that keeps me satisfied for the day.  I drink  my liquids and eat a couple protein snacks during the day.  I have asked my nutritionist and doctor about this and they tell me to enjoy it while I can, as my appetite will return eventually.  I have been so lucky to have the support of my husband, daughters and those of you on OH that have given me so much information and insight on this journey.  Thank you.
