Two Months Out and I Have Wrist Bones!!

Jul 11, 2008

Yup..tha's right...I have wrist bones!  Never knew I had wrist bones really because I could never see them.  Now they stick out!  Amazing!   A little over two months since my RNY and I am feeling pretty good!  I have lost 52 pounds so far and I am really enjoying feeling more comfortable in my clothes, feeling lighter on my feet, and not feeling hungry most of the time.

I have noticed I am getting more tired mid-day, so I am wondering if my iron levels are down.  I am going to ask my surgeon about this at my next appointment.  No other complications, however.  I have had no nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, nothing.  I stay away from sugar and anything hard to digest.  Other than that, I am able to eat small amounts of anything else.  I make a yummy protein smoothie every morning which I drink while driving to work in the morning.  It's a great start to the day, as I am not much of a breakfast person.  The recipes on Shelly's Egg Face website are fantastic!  (theworldaccordingtoeggface.com)  Check them out!

My weight loss was slower this month...I didn't make my goal of weighing below 200.  I hit a 2 and 1/2 week plateau that is finally over.   I will continue to keep that as my goal for next month!

Thanks for reading!  Hugs to ya!

One Month Out!

Jun 02, 2008

Today I saw Dr. Saber, my surgeon, for my one month check-up.  I am so pleased to say I have lost a total of 40 lbs!  That's since April when I started my pre-op liquid diet.  I can't believe the difference in my health already...my back pain has dramatically reduced, I have much more energy than before, I am able to walk in my neighborhood every evening with no leg pain.  Wow!  I can't imagine how good I'll feel six months from now.

I have advanced to the soft diet now and it feels really good to be able to eat at least some of the things I fix for my family for dinner.   I have tolerated almost everything I have eaten.  However, last night I did experience dumping for the first time.  I should have listened to my husband when he said, "honey...that ice cream says no sugar added, not sugar free!"  Well, I had a scoop of it and 30 minutes later I had the worst stomach cramps.  Ten minutes after that I was in the bathroom with diarrhea and throwing up at the same time...Ugh!!  But, It was a good lesson for me.

Well, enough of the yucky details...I will post again in another month.  I am really looking forward to weighing below two hundred...that is my next goal.  Let's see if it will be next month...

Hugs,
Gayla

One week post-op!

May 06, 2008

Off my pain meds for two days now!!  Feeling really good...taking walks in the evening around the block and getting out and about to the store and doctor appts.  I have lost 25 lbs so far (20 pre-op and 5 post-op).  Already I have noticed a significant decrease in the amount of lower back pain I have.  It's incredible!  I am going to see the dietician tomorrow and she is probably going to chew me out for not getting in all my required liquids...but I'm trying!  I am still about 10 oz. short each day, but it's getting better every day.  I was eating SF jello last night and it tasted so good, that I mindlessly ate a second one...OMG!  The last bite was painful...my pouch was screaming at me..."you idiot...you can't eat like you used to!"  Sorry new pouch...I forgot!  I'm gearing up to going back to work next Monday.  I am ready.

Hugs,
Gayla

Home from the hospital now!

May 03, 2008

It is now 4 days post-op and I am feeling a bunch better today.  I took a nice hot shower and rode in the car to the store.  The first few days right after surgery, I was asking myself..."What have I done?"  I kept asking the nurse to track down that bus that just ran over me, but she just chuckled.  I just kept telling myself this uncomfortable feeling would go away soon and I would be on the downhill road to a new me!  Every new day brings less pain and discomfort and I am looking forward to the day when I can be off my pain meds!

Hugs,
Gayla

2 Days to go...

Apr 27, 2008

I'm going to the store today to get last minute things I need for surgery day.  I am getting more anxious as the time rolls on.  I find I am spending more and more time on this website, looking at before and after pictures, reading blogs, etc.  It helps me a great deal to read and look at others' success.  Tomorrow I have to be on clear liquid diet.  Should be fun, as tomorrow is my last day of work.  I'm counting down the hours....

7 More Days!!

Apr 22, 2008

In one week, I will be having my surgery.  I can't believe the time is almost here.  I have been thinking about and researching this surgery for so long, but the time has come!  I am in week three of my liquid diet.  I haven't lost much weight since week one, but I have lost all interest in food.  Yeah!  I even tried to cheat one night and the food tasted bad, so I spit it out.  I feel I am on the road to "recovery"...where I don't live to eat anymore, but eat to live and live to do many other things...like outdoor sports and swimming.  Can't wait!

The countdown has begun!

Hello OH Members!

I can't believe the time is almost here!  I am feeling both excited and nervous!  I have a surgery date scheduled and have just begun my 3 week liquid diet.  Being on the liquid diet is easier than I thought it would be.  I am even able to cook meals for my family with no urges to nibble!

Here's some personal info about me.  I am 39 years old, married and have 2 adorable little boys, ages 3 and 6.  I have been overweight since childhood and have struggled with my weight forever it seems.  My biggest reason to have WLS is due to mobility issues.  I have constant pain in my lower back, hips, knees, and feet.  I have no other co-morbidities, such as HBP, etc... so I am pretty healthy for a fat girl!  LOL  However, the decision came when the daily pain began to affect my daily life and my quality of life, which began after I had my youngest child.

Well, 20 days to go before my surgery.  I am so excited to begin this journey!  If you have any words of advice for me, please message!

Hugs,
Gayla
