Obesity runs in my family. My mom was heavy and had RNY almost 20 years ago and is doing great. My father has hypertension, diabetes, and sleep apnea, my aunt died at age 50, my grandma died at 68...all obese. I was told by my doctor 5 yrs ago and I am morbidly obese and that I have high bp. She recommended gastric bypass since I told her I have dieted so much and failed. Once she said that I laughed and said, "I don't need that!" I was in denial. It really hit me in Aug 2009 when I was 33 weeks pregnant with twin boys and we lost one of the babies due to what they believe was preeclampsia (very high bp during a pregnancy which can harm baby and/or mother) I hold alot of guilt since we lost baby Liam. 6 months ago I went to my family doctor again and said, "I am ready now for the surgery". I got set up with a great surgeon and had my surgery March 15th 2011. It's been a roller coaster since surgery. I have had my ok days and my bad days. I take it one day and a time and can't wait for this journey that is going to change my life. :)
