Unlike a lot of people I've read about I've only been overweight for the past 20 years.  Before that I managed to keep my weight at a respectable place.  In fact at my 20 year class reunion I weighed 132 pounds having just lost 23 pounds at a popular wight loss program.  I'm 5'3".  After that class reunion my trouble began.  I spent the next 18 years going up, down, up farther, and then down and back up again.  Last month I reached my all time high of 245 pounds and I was in tears.   Over that 20 year span I developed hight blood pressure, high colesterol and degenerative arthritis which resulted being on medication and also having two total knee replacements in the past two years.

Recently Bariatric Surgery has seemed to pop out at me from all over the place and I ended up attending a seminar put on by Dr Joseph Regan from Columbia Hopital.  The next day I talked to my husband and he gave me his blessing.  I then checked with my insurance to see if they covered Bariatric surgery, they did and I seemed to fit all the criteria.  That same day I made an appointment to see Dr Regan on May 9th.  I was happy to get in so soon.  Since then I have been reading up on this surgery like crazy and looking at lots of different profiles on this web site.  I have to confess I'm afraid.  I am 60 years old and so far haven't seen anyone my age that has had this surgery though Dr Regan does them up to 65.                                                           Well this is where I am starting and I'm     hoping I can find people to help me along the way.  I've already cut down on my sugar and have given up soda and have lost five pounds.  I'm pretty sick of being so heavy and really want my new knees to last as long as possible.
