April 16

Apr 16, 2009

On April 21st it will be 3 wks since my surgery, I'm very frustrated because I haven't lost more than 10lbs (240 now). I'm still eating soup type of foods and I've even started a walking DVD. It's driving me bananas because everyone else seems to have lost at least 20lbs. What am I doing wrong? My energy level was real low so today I got a B12 shot, hopefully that'll help.

I also wanted to note that at the very begining I would get this tight feeling in my chest after I ate and I thought it ment I was full - I was wrong. I started to eat soft foods then the feeling got worse and It would literally bring me to my knees. I now think it might be things getting "stuck" , so I'm back to eating soup base foods until I learn the signals that my body is giving me.

Back to the wieght loss issue...What can I do to get the scale moving??? The next time I post will be when I get to the 20lbs lost mark. But I do check my messages so hit me there. Thanks!

1 wk post-op Dr. visit

Apr 10, 2009

Yesterday, I went to the Dr for my 1 wk check-up and drainage removal. I stepped on the scale and was 10lbs lighter!! I couldn't believe it, I know it's just water weight but I'm happy all the same. The Dr was a little worried that I lost too much water weight and told me stay hydrated. He also mentioned that I could expect to lose about 20lbs by my next visit in May. I would love to see that!

I am ready to start exercising but I did just have major surgery so I have to start slow. I have a walking dvd that I'll start using instead of walking outside because I get tired easily. The cravings that I had are slowly subsiding, I'm learning to accept that no matter how much I want to eat, my body doesn't agree.

I'm also learning when I'm full, yeah that heavy feeling in my chest means I've had enough. My mind and body have to learn to be in harmony because my mind says yes, yes, yes ...but my body says no, no, no. ... Its hard because nobody ever told me about the mental aspect of this surgery.

5 days post op

Apr 05, 2009

I had wls on March 31, 2009 and to be honest I expected to be in a lot of pain. To my surprise I feel great over all, yeah I feel uncomfortable and looks like I've been hit by a truck but it's tolerable.

The one thing that surprised me after surgery is my craving to still eat the foods that aren't good for me. I thought that after surgery my cravings would be gone and my weightloss wouldn't be a struggle. But it is a struggle and will probably continue to be but now with the help of the surgery I'm ready to face the challenge. It also helps to look at before and after pictures of people who have gone on this journey and came out successful!
