I had battled weight issues throughout my childhood and in my Junior year in high school, I lost a lot of weight and felt that I was at the right weight for me. It was not to be because I had a manager at the McDonald's where I worked try and drag me into the basement of McDonald's to "show me how great he thought I looked." I started gaining from there and my weight became my safety zone.

I was married in 1982 and gained as I had each baby (8 awesome children). Needless to say, I have tried all the diets out there and still could not lose weight. I blamed having 5 c-sections for ruining my stomach, but I know that is not the case. :)

In 2006, I decided to have a lap band, but, my husband was struck with glaucoma and all the money we had saved for the lap band went to save my husband's sight. We moved from Colorado back to Kansas in 2008 and, seeing that my insurance covered the appointments for weight loss surgery, I endeavored again to have lap band surgery. Well, I followed all of the requirements for weight loss surgery and was getting ready to schedule my surgery, when the surgeon's office I was working with found out that the weight loss surgery was a special exclusion and that I could not go through the surgery. I was thrown into a major depression and gained additional weight.

Fast forward to 2013--our insurance will now cover bariatric surgery in 2014, so now I am working with Dr. Dunshee's office to have the Duodenal Switch surgery. I hope to have surgery in April/May, depending on how fast my insurance approves my surgery. It has been a long road, and I figure, come what may, I will continue to try and have the surgery.
