Surgery 6/24/08

Well, I finally had Gastric Bypass on 6/24/08. Two days later I was rushed into emergency surgery. I had a blood clot break loose and get lodged in my new stomach pouch and block everything off. So much for small laproscopic scars. I now have about an 8 inch incision down the middle of my abdomen. A few days after that they thought I had a blood clot in my lung but the lower lobes of both lungs had collapsed a little. I spent 10 days in the hopital instead of the expected 3. I feel lucky to be alive after all of that.
Don't get me wrong, I am still happy I had the surgery. I think I am now on the road to recovery and weight loss. I just wanted to share some of the complications that can arise. I had two coworkers have the same surgery, with the same doctor and their surgery went very smoothly. That is just how my luck seems to go sometimes. I hope that after some weight loss results, I will not feel so bad about the big scar. I went into the hospital weighing 254. I gained to 260 because of the liquid nutrition they had to give me. I now weigh 244.
