Hmmm, where to start.  Well, my name is Lynne, I’m 32, married and live in Northern California.  I have two kids of my own, 9 & 12, and two step children 12 & 15.  In addition I have two dogs (they don’t really think they are dogs though) and 3 cats………….my zoo is complete.

My war with weight started between having my daughter and getting pregnant with my son.  Looking back, I honestly couldn’t tell you if it was stress or unhappiness or laziness that started bringing on the pounds……most likely a combination of all three.  The past 10 years, I’ve managed to pack on a whopping 150+ pounds.  In my teens I was actually very thin and fit, I was a dancer, ballet mostly and even had periods in my life when I was underweight.  Like everyone else, I’ve done every diet in the book and for every pound lost it was like I’d gain two back.  I did lose a significant amount of weight about 6 years back taking Phentermine but again, gained it all back and the side effects of taking that were not pleasant, I wouldn’t recommend prescription speed to anyone!!

My biggest kick in the pants to start looking at WLS came about a year ago.  My father is a very very large man and has had 3 heart attacks and multiple kidney stones.  Well one night he was rushed to the hospital.  Turns out one of his kidneys had completely “died” and the other one was barely functioning.  He had a couple of surgeries and was in the hospital for three weeks and even battled a couple of infections.  There was however, one surgery he needed to have but couldn’t because he was too big!!  We almost lost him and he’s only 62.  He did recover and ended up losing enough weight for the surgery but now has lifelong complications to deal with.  That, along with his bad heart, severe arthritis, sleep apnea, high blood pressure and more, was enough to finally open my eyes……….I DID NOT want to end up like that.

I also have a sister with Type II diabetes, my dad’s mom was an extremely large woman with Type II diabetes and my two aunts on my dad’s side were very overweight, had the diabetes and both died before they were 60.  I’ve decided that I’m NOT going down that path.

So here I am, determined to make a healthier and longer life for myself.  I have great kids and want to be around for a long time.  I also have the BEST husband ever, he really is fantastic and I’m completely in love with him.   I will do whatever I can to make sure we are together as long as possible!
