And so it begins...

Nov 06, 2007

In October 2004 I attended a WSL seminar and promptly scheduled an appointment with my family doctor and pulled together information for my application to the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care for approval to have an RNY bypass at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. To make a long story short, my first applications and subsequent appeals were denied, and I was devistated. I sank into a deep depression and gained even more weight. With the encouragement of my husband I tried again, and this time the approval came. Now the roller coaster ride begins. I was surprised to find that in the days following my approval my emotions swung from esctatic to panicked. I was hit by a feeling of "oh my stars, what am I doing?" in between elation - "finally, I have a chance to be normal!" The feelings of panic seem to be subsiding. I scheduled my first appointment today and I'm finally allowing myself to experience the excitement of a new life beginning. For my appointment next Wednesday with Dr. Genaw, I have to have a weight loss history completed (no problem there, did that for my application) and a letter written that hits several points, including my understanding of the procedure, the aftercare, my action plan, and so on. Hopefully I'll be able to get that one written over the weekend and still have time to sit on it a couple days for editing.
