6 Months Post-Op

Mar 16, 2015

Yesterday was my official 6 month surgiversary. Hard to believe it has been 6 months already. When I started this process, I knew that the first 6 months were critical to my success. Working on the head has been the most difficult. I have made going to the gym an integral part of my life (when I get stressed, I go to the gym - what a big change!). I have found foods that work for me - not very much meat yet, but I am eating a variety of foods and tolerating them well. Still working to make sure I get enough protein every day, and have switched my multivitamin / calcium to Celebrate! brand which I seem to tolerate better. I was very rebellious on the OptiSource multivitamins - could not face the chewing and chalkiness 3-4 times a day. So in order to make sure I take my MV, I switched. Gotta say my surgeon was not happy but when he found out I was not compliant with his choice and was compliant with mine (and that it was still a bariatric vitamin) he was OK. This is about making me the best ME I can be. I have learned a lot about myself through this process - what I am strong enough to handle, what brings me joy and what doesn't work for my body. For the first time in my life, I know what my body needs to eat to stay healthy and lose weight S L O W L Y. When I don' t eat right, I don't lose (or may even gain a pound). When I don't exercise, NOTHING HAPPENS! I feel like I have control over my health for the first time in decades! Do I wish I could have accomplished this without surgery? You bet. Do I think the surgery saved my life - I know it did! No regrets - keep pressing forward and never forget that this is my ONE OPPORTUNITY, so don't screw it up!
