3 months out

May 18, 2008

I had my 3 month check up on Wed, May 14th and everything looks great. Since surgery I've lost 50lbs, thats brings me to a total of 65lbs lost from my heaviest. Woohoo! I'm down from a size 28 to a size 22, from a 3xl to a 1xl. I am feeling really good. One thing I need to work on is my liquid intake. I do good during the week but on the weekends I don't do nearly as well. I also need to work on getting more exercise time in. I am doing well with my vitamins getting them all in everyday.

I also turned 30 this week, right on the same day as my 3 month anniversary (May 15th). I was a little bummed about turning 30 but I'm pretty much over it now. My 30's are going to be great. I'm going to be a lot healthier than I was in my 20's, so I have a lot more to look forward too. I'm convinced that everything is going to be great from here on.

One Month Out....

Mar 19, 2008

So my one month anniversary came about with me in the hospital. I was checked into the hospital on Friday, March 14th and finally released on Tuesday, March 18.

At about 2 and a half weeks out I developed stenosis. Which is when the opening to the new stomach pouch heals too tight. Because of this I stopped eating and was barely getting anything to drink in. I slowly started to get dehydrated. Finally I was seen by a specialist to have an endoscopy dialation done. This was done on Tuesday, March 11th. This is when they go in through the mouth and use a balloon to dialate the opening. While they were doing this they found a rather large ulcer in the same location which was contributing greatly in my not being able to eat.

Unfortunantly, come Friday I still couldn't eat and was getting very little water in. I called my surgeon's office that morning and the nurse told me to come in that afternoon. I was seen by the doctor and told that I wasn't looking good and needed to be admitted into the hospital that night.  In the hospital I was given fluids through an IV that they put into my arm (using a pic-line, because they weren't able find a vein due to being so dehydrated). I was also given potassium because my levels were so low, and medicines to treat the ulcer. It took me a couple of days before I finally started to feel better, come Monday I was ready to go home but my potassium level wasn't good enough to let me go. Finally I got to come home Tuesday afternoon.

This whole experience was really hard on me. It made me question my decision to have this surgery and even made me regret doing it. When these thoughts were going through my head I wasn't being reasonable, I wasn't myself and I wasn't thinking clearly.  I'm glad to be feeling better and the only regrets I have are not getting myself to the doctor before it got as bad as it did. This has made me more focused and I'm paying more attention to my health.

I knew that this was going to be a hard road to travel but for some reason I didn't quite realize how hard. And to think, this is only the beginning.

My surgery

Feb 18, 2008

I had surgery on Friday, Feb 15th. Everything went well and I was released from the hospital on Saturday, Feb 16th. I've been home since then and for the most part doing good. I'm just a bit sore and really tired.
