I have struggled with my weight for as long as I can remember.  I did manage to lose about 60 lbs for my wedding in 1993, but when I got pregnant, I gained alot of weight. I think I used pregnancy as a licence to eat. (BIG MISTAKE) .  I have struggled since the birth of my son (almost 14 years) with loosing weight, but for every 5lbs I would lose, I would gain 10. I was tired of being on that rollercoaster.  I had often thought about having weight loss surgery, but was never sure if it was right for me. I started my research on it in early December of 2007, talked to my doctor about it and went for the informational meeting in April of 2008. I have a neice in Kansas who had gastric bypass done in January 2008 and she was a big help to me with my silly questions. I had my consult on May 14, 2008 with Dr. Mun at Faulkner Hospital in Boston and when I weighed in, I was pretty disgusted in myself so decided that I was going to control my life from now on and not let food control it.   I wanted to be able to walk up a flight of stairs without gasping for air, I wanted to be able to like myself when I looked in the mirror, so after talking with Dr. Mun, I decided that I was going to go for it.  My surgery was scheduled for July 30, 2008. The day of my surgery I was down to 254 lbs. (one of Dr. Mun's requirements was that I had to lose between 15-20 lbs before surgery).  I am now 6 weeks post op and have lost a total of 53 lbs since my consult in May.  I feel like a new person.  It is not an easy journey, I have a hard time eating slowly and getting in all my protein and water, but I am commited to making these life changes.  I hope to become friends with alot of people on this site, they have really helped me so far with different ideas on how to stay on track and it is nice just to know that someone else is going throught the same thing i am
