My name is Jennifer. I have been overweight since the age of nine. I have battled obesity for almost 30 years. I have tried just about every diet known to man. Recently, I was prescribed Phentermine. For the first time in my life, I didn't feel hungry. Weight fell off. The side effects were not good, heart palpitations, heart racing or pounding, dry mouth, etc. but the one thing I did gain from it was quiet. My mind became quiet. I didn't care about food. I knew I needed to eat healthy, but I wasn't obessesing over food anymore! I couldn't believe I had all of this extra space to learn new things, to enjoy my life and family and friends. I knew that I couldn't stay on the Phentermine forever. I started researching WLS, and to my surprise I found the gastric sleeve. After much research, I knew that was the surgery that would best fit my lifestyle. I was willing to give up all of my bad vices just to have the oportunity to keep the constant food noise out of my head. After much discussion with my family and closest friends, the decision was made to meet with a surgeon. After much research I found Dr. Alanis. He and his staff are friendly, knowledgable and so helpful. We went through the pros and cons, what to expect before and after. My surgery is scheduled for October 18th. I had to give up smoking (thank goodness) and the Phentermine (again..not a long term solution), but am getting prepared to start a brand new lifestyle and can't wait!
