The big day

Feb 16, 2007

January 30, 2007 - the big day is finally here! I wake up more excited then nervous. I am excited to start this next part of my life, but nervous about the surgery. I hate needles and I know there will be a lot of needles coming up.
We get to the hospital and after a half hour wait, they finally call me into the pre-surgery suite. I had a wonderful nurse who happened to be a Yankee fan, so we hit it off. She was able to take my mind off of the needle to my stomach and the IV.
Then the wait began. Gary was in the chair next to me. My surgery was scheduled for 11:45. We sat and watched noon come and go, then one o'clock come and go. By this time Gary and I were both a bundle of nerves. At two the doctor and anestheseologist finally stopped by. They would be coming for me in half an hour. The anesthesologist was nice enough to give me a valium to calm me down.
Well 2:30 came and went, 3:00 came and went, 3:30 came and went. By this time Gary was a wild man and my valium had worn off. He went out to the nurses demanding to know what was going on. Finally at 4:00 the nursing supervisor came and told us they were going to have to postpone the surgery until Friday.
I was disappointed but also relieved that the wait was over. But by this point I was starving, after having fasted since the night before.
I went home and treated myself to pizza for dinner.
Now the wait begins for Friday.
