"I believe I can fly"

Many times through the years I have heard the saying "today is the first day of the rest of your life". Never has this quote had more meaning to me than right now at this very moment. Something wonderful and exciting is happening to me...... I feel like I am evolving, like a butterfly slowing emerging from its cocoon, stretching out its fragile wings for the very first time, testing them to see if they are strong enough, then suddenly, taking off on its very first shakey flight... gaining strength the further and further it goes until nothing can hold it back... beauty in flightI am on day 8 post op.... I cannot believe what a difference a week can make in my life and health. I am a diabetic. Before I had the RNY done on 4/4/11 I was on 180 units of Lantus twice a day, a separate shot of Humilin for meals besides 1000mg of Metformin twice a day. For those of you not familiar with insulin... let me tell you that is a whole lot. My endocrinologist told me I was severely insulin resistant... which simply meant I had to take a whole lot of insulin in order for it to help my sugar levels, and even then it was not always enough. I had seen my sugar levels go as high as the 400's which is scarey as heck...I had to do something or this dreaded disease would take me before my prime...
sooo.. on to the good news.
I am day 8 post op gastic bypass and I am ecstatic to say that I am currently off all of my insulin and metformin... none... nada... and my fasting blood sugar this am was 112!!!!!!!!!!!!!! whoop whoop whoop... (fist pump) Its like a miracle... I am soooo happy I can't stand it. I have also lost a total of 23lbs!!!!!!!! the excruciating muscle pain I was having in my back daily is GONE!!!!!!! Praise God!!!!!!! and this is only the beginning of my journey... just starting to spread those shakey wings.... but you know... deep down within me..... I BELIEVE I CAN FLY!!!!!!
