Almost 3 mos post op

Jan 11, 2009

Thursday will be 3 mos post op!  My how time flies.  I have said since the beginning that I absolutely do not regret having this done.  I know without a doubt that if I hadn't, I would still be in the same place, which is 54 lbs heavier!  All that I have gone through is worth every second.  I had a long recovery period after surgery.  I followed my guidelines and still ended up vomitting to the point where I was almost dehydrated.  The vomitting lasted for close to two months, literally every day.  In those two months, I had 2 strictures where the opening from my pouch to my small intestine was literally healing itself shut so nothing could get through.  Sometimes I couldn't even hold liquid.  I had to have two Endoscopy procedures done and have the opening stretched back out.  After surviving this hell and living on a liquid diet for the most part, I am finally pushing through it and moving forward.  The sickness has subsided for an entire week, which is amazing.  I am feeling so much better!  I have started taking vitamins also which I believe are key in my energy level.  This journey has been a crazy ride so far, but so worth it.  I am down from a size 22/24 to a 16!!!!!!!!  I am now smaller than when I met my husband.  It can only get better for him!  I have lost over 25 inches overall and 54 lbs to date!  How amazing is that?  It hasn't been easy but I'll never regret  my life changing decision.

I read other peoples blogs to learn about what is to come and mistakes to avoid.  I really worry about those who are in the stages of losing from surgery but have yet to change their eating habits.  Luckily, this is something that I have already started and doing well with.  I have my moments when I see people eating whatever they want and in large quantities and sometimes it kills me mentally to know I will never eat everything I want and will never eat in large quantities again.  But the moment passes and I re-focus on all of the positives, and to tell the truth, watching people eat things I can't have and not eating them myself, especially in large quantities, is not really a negative.  Without those types of foods, I will be much healthier.  I just want to say to those who are struggling to change their habits to do it now, in the very early stages.  If you wait, chances are, you aren't going to change your eating habits.  Your weight loss will not sustain itself without you doing your part.  After the surgery has done it's part, it is up to you to continue making your weight loss a success.  Hang in there and try not to get discouraged.  Take it one day at a time, making small goals so that they are reached more easily.  Don't give up on yourself!!!!
