April 2007, went for the group consult today with Dr. Pupkova, I was very impressed with her and just want to get everything done to move forward with this.

It turns out the sleep apnea takes the longest as I came back positive so Now I have to wear the mask for 240 hours before surgery.

Luckily everything went through insurance easily with Personal Choice.

July 19, 2007  Pre admission Testing.  All went smoothly on course for surgery date of 7/31/07

July 31, 07  After a full day of clear liquids I weigh in 5 pounds lighter on surgery day.  Ready to get it over with.

Surgery went well the pain is well controlled but it is very difficult to get up and walk every 2 hours and do the breathing exercises when  you just want to sleep.  I'm more able to move around in bed and get up and down than I thought I would be.  I am much more bothered by the dizziness and nausea than from pain.  I determine that it is the morphine in my pump making me nauseaus and ask to be switched to Dilauded which I than feel much better.

The 1st day after surgery was by far the toughest, I really felt pretty lousy, no appetite at all not even to drink and they're pushing the fluids on you.  Also, it seems you just get settled back in your comfy bed and they're telling you to get up and walk again every 2 hours around the clock.

Also I hate how everyone comes in when your sound asleep and asks your pain level 1-10.  Well flat on my back in bed no pain, but let me move a little and yea pain!  I always said the same number!  (6).  I think they should have let us get up and moving a little and than ask  for our pain level.

The 2nd day after was much better and each day after that gets a little better.  I was OK getting the fluids in, but I struggled with the protein at first because I didn't like the powders I bought.

Well now I'm home and 9 days post lap. RNY surgery and I've already lost 17 pounds, I'm wearing a pair of shorts that didn't fit me  days ago!!  Can't wait to get off the full liquids and onto some more "real" food, but hope the weight keeps coming off quickly!!
