Not sure what the catalyst was...perhaps it was being totally ignored by my ex-husband (fat=invisible)...perhaps it was looking at the photos from my trip up to Oberlin OH to see my mom & siblings (can you say: whale?). I think it's a combo of those, plus: blood pressure going up, mild-moderate sleep apnea, snoring, husband in another bed as a result, blood sugar elevated, feet hurt, no energy, looking like a blimp in clothes...the list goes on and on. I am pretty disgusted with myself and how the hell I could have let myself get this bad (high was 264 lbs at 5'7"). I used to be pretty thin...what the hell happened???!!!! I never seriously thought about weight loss surgery until I was getting my hair on Nov 11, 2006. The mother of one of the hairstylists came in and we got to talking about why she had a facelift (she's in her 70s). Turns out she had gastric bypass surgery a year before and had a facelift recently. She looked absolutely fantastic. It hit me all of a sudden...if she did it why the hell couldn't I? I looked at my insurance and they cover it, in fact Sacred Heart Pensacola is one of their preferred facilities. So I went to the site and saw there was a seminar the next evening (Nov 14)! I called the office of the Dr. (Lord) and was told I HAD to attend one of the seminars, so I went. VERY interesting. Learned that I did qualify as best as I could tell (BMI 39.5 w/comorbidities), my insurance doesn't require a supervised weight loss of 3 to 6 months, but I did need a doctor's referral. So Wednesday I called up my internal medicine doc (the one who told me I was depressed-no duh-my blood pressure was up, my sugar was up, and wanted me to get a sleep test done). Saw her Thursday and they faxed the referral Friday! Got a call from Angie at the center and set up an appointment for Dec 12th to see Maggie (psychologist) and an appointment for Jan 10th to see Dr. Lord. Surgery was Feb 6, 2007 and I've never looked back! Read my blogs for the 'blow by blow' and view my pictures to see the results! Best decision I've made for my health.
