My weightloss journey.

Mar 02, 2017

I have struggled with my weight all of my life. I was teased at school even though I wasn't much overweight. I was 14 when my weight had ballooned out of control.A very kind teacher at high school took me aside and talked to me about my weight and made some excellent realistic suggestions which I took on board.

I lost weight and felt good about myself. ThenI became ill and endured chronic fatigue after alot of stress in third year high school. I dropped out of school and found various jobs. I found a full time job at a bakery. I thought I had found my dream job as I love cooking. It would have been but my boss sexually harrassed me and I didn't know how to deal with it.I had to leave. You would think the food would have been the problem the access to baked goods. Eventually I told my parents, who told his wife.

I left home then lost weight and was at my goal weight due to having no where to live and not much income.I met my husband got married and had two children. I put on 20 kgs in my first pregnancy. I didn't put any weight on with my secound.I set about getting my weight of by going to weight watchers. I got it all off, left my abusive husband and then slowly the weight crept back on.

By 2004 I was over 134 kgs kind friends told me they were very worried about my health and I set about again to get this weight off.I started walking and stopped baking so much.It was hard at first because to walk I had a belly hanging down in front of my legs.Progress was slow and full of set backs at times I would give up but then gain back the weight.

My sister died suddenly in 2005 we didnt know why until the autopsy but they felt it was a massive heart attack. She had a little boy 2 years old. Ischemic heart disease they said.We had no idea she was that ill. Then my father passed away almost 6 months to the day after my sister died . He died due to alcoholism. A tragic year indeed.

I read in the Advertiser about lap band weight loss surgery. I convinced Mum to come with me to an information night. We both had the surgery. Mum and I have had ours removed due to complications. We both lost around 12 kilos with the band.

Then I had gastric bypass surgery on the 8 of February this year. I am in week 4 now still on pureed foods. It's hard to stick to but it makes you stick to it. If you want the best results and no pain you have to.I lost 6 kilos whilst on thefluids but my weight loss has slowed since on pureed foods. Dr Bessell told me the first 4 weeks are more about healing any way.So thats where I am at now. I am 51 and I am looking forward to my healthier body.

I guess my story is pretty typical of a person struggling with excess weight, but I want to share so it helps me and may help someone else.
