"Because the hospital did not have any "monitored beds" I was told - I never did get a room. I was put in some care unit. There were 2 nurses and a lap band patient and myself. I was so upset the entire time I was there. My husband and son were never allowed to see me after I left recovery. I didn't get to see them either. They waited till 7 p.m. at night and finally went home. Some lady said they could not come back where I had been moved to. Also, all the new things I had packed in my bag never were of any use to me. My husband was not allowed to leave them for me. He took everything home with him, including my partial front tooth and eyeglasses. I had no phone, television, not even reading materials, even though I told the nurses I wanted something to read. I could not sleep. I asked to use the phone and was allowed once or twice. After that, other patients began coming in and I was completely cut off from being able to contact my husband and friends and letting them know how I was doing or what was going on. They said they couldn't remove my catheter because the bathroom was too far away and they couldn't take me to it. Finally, after many hours, I was so frustrated and bored, I started to get up myself to go find a phone. At that time, they got a woman to take me for a ride in a wheelchair. This woman told me she was giving me the hospital tour, although the ride consisted of back hallways. Just before we re-entered the unit, this woman opened a door and there right close to where I was being kept, was a huge magazine rack. Apparently, neither of my nurses cared to walk the short distance to get me something to read. I was so disappointmed about the whole experience. I even had to change to go home in a bathroom with a toilet and sink....I sat on the toilet to change my clothes. "

Steve Katsis

"Usually I can make a judgment after a first impression. I was right about Dr. Katsis. He had both surgical competence and bedside manner, however I was in a bit of a fog after surgery and don't know that I retained every detail that he said. All I had to do was phone the office and any questions I had were quickly answered and I was not left to feel any question was too petty. The nurse that was there during my consult to just before surgery time period no longer works there as of late November or early December 2006. I did have many bumps along the way in regards to the actual events leading up to my surgery, totally unrelated to Dr. Katsis. He set me up with a 2 week follow-up appointment after my December 11, 2006 surgery. He left no questions unanswered. It took me 9 months from consultation to surgery, which seems longer than most I know of. To my knowledge, nothing that Dr. Katsis knew of. In addition to Dr. Katsis, the office staff has always been polite and I have never had any problem with them. I completely 100% trust Dr. Steven Katsis. Even though I only have seen him 3 times, (which is normal) it is only time that would limit all the good that I can say about him."
