Happy Surgiversary!

Jul 08, 2010

Happy Surgiversary   to me and to all my July pals!

Wow! What a ride!  We have been reminded all year that this is a journey, a marathon - not a sprint.  Thanks to everyone for hanging in there together.  Support is so important.

This section of my journey began in October of 2008 when I began my 6 month medically supervised weight loss.  I learned a lot of things that I know helped make me successful:  eating slow, small bites, time to practice my chew chew CHEW!  I lost 30 pounds.  7/9/09 I had my surgery and have lot 80 pounds!  I'm gone from a size 26 to a 12!  Lot a full shoe size as well.  I'm off all my medications: gerd, high blood pressure, diabetics, high doses of ibuprofen for knees and back,  cholesterol.

For our family vacation this year, we went to a dude ranch in Colorado.  I went horseback riding EVERYDAY.  Figured it up that I rode more than 45 miles that week.  I was able to get on and off the horse by myself.  Rode class 3 river rapids and loved every minute of it.  Altitude and activity didn't bother me!  It was the best vacation I can remember because I didn't have the limitations that my weight or health had for years - decades!

Looking back at why I had surgery and my goals...yeah, I've met them!  I'm not finished yet, but I wanted to be healthy and be able to live instead of sitting on the sidelines and I'd say I'm very happy with my decision!

Congrats to all of you!  You are all LOSERS!

8 months post op reflections

Mar 22, 2010

It's amazing to think that 8 months have past since surgery.  Some days have been hard.  Some have been easy.  Since my journey began in October of 2008 with my medical supervised diet, I have lost 97 pounds.  Since I see the same face in the mirror each morning, I don't always get the real picture.  So this past week, I took the time to compare SIDE BY SIDE pictures of before and after...it is still amazing to me.  I FEEL so much better!  My health has improved!

I have not had complications and for that I am thankful.  I have followed the plan and for the most part have stuck to what I know is good.  I have not exercied as much as I should and I know that both my body shape and weight loss have been impacted, but my exercies plan is improving!

I've been stuck at the same weight for about a month.  Checking in with my July pals, it seems to be a common theme.  I still have a ways to go to hit my personal goals.  AND I need to start saving for reconstructive surgery!

Closet Cleanout part Deux

Aug 22, 2009

I finished my closet clean out.  Said goodbuy to some old friend.  I even found a good home for most of them.  Coats were something I'd forgotten about...now I have none!

I made sure I've saved a few pieces for those after pictures.

I have only a couple of pair of shorts as well.

Time to go shopping?  NO!  I have plenty to get me through another month or so  and must resist that tempation to buy new.  I do need to keep my eye open for extreme sales because I will need 18's, 16's 14's...and so on.  So off seasonal items I can look for some basics.

It is so exciting!

I feel so much better!

Closet Cleanout

Aug 20, 2009

I started the serious closet clean out yesterday.  I started with the shoes...now to really appreciate where we begin, you have to understand that I am a collector of shoes, not fine shoes mind you, but I love shoes.  Probably comes from a lifetime of shopping for clothes that don't fit..but shoes more often do.  I am confident that if you counted my flip flops, I would have in excess of 50 pair.  New shoes I bought earlier this week were a half size smaller and many of my previous shoes were wides...  Gone now are more than HALF of my shoe collections and all but one pair of my Croc (had to have one pair).  I have collected a pair or two that were too small that now will be like having a new pair!

On to my pants.  ALL of the pants in my closet had to go!  Yes, every last pair.  I did save a few strategic pair for the after pictures...I want to stand with both legs in one side of my pants!

Like most women, I have also collected over the years a stash of cloths that "someday will fit".  Well now is that very day!  I was able to replace the empty place in my closet with 'new' ones.

Tomorrow my DD and I will tacke the tops.  I am thinking we wil have plenty of hangers now!

6 weeks checkup

Aug 20, 2009

I had my 6 week post op check up today.  I had my pre op appointment on 6/5 due to scheduling issues, so they show my weight loss as 28 pounds.  I show 23.  But either way, it is a good loss, not too much or too little.

I'm eating what I'm supposed to, getting in a good amount of fluids and protien, taking my vitamins...all is good.

They had a photo copy of my pre op pictures.  Since they were in black and white, they didn't scan well or I would have posted.  The most dramatic difference is really in my face ( and tummy).

I am so happy I have done this.  As I told the nurse, I have had not real issues.

I love my RNY!

Severely Obese!

Aug 19, 2009

Just for giggles, I checked my BMI today...39.9 - severely obsese!  I am no longer morbidly obese!  I have 88 pounds to my personal goal.

We as WLS patients sometime celebrate and discuss things others think is strange, but for us it is part of our journey.

I am a long way from where I want to be, but I'm a long way from where I've been!

another WOW

Aug 16, 2009

Today is my first post op airline trip.  I knew the more than 20 pounds I've lost were going to make a difference, but I was shocked at how much!  I had almost 4 inches left of extra seatbelt AND the tray table rested comfortably in front of me.  It was a nice feeling to finally feel like I fit in a seat.

Aug 14, 2009

Just a new cut and color today and had DH take a new picture.  Needed to update my profile picture since it was from near the beginning of my journey.

Love my new hair cut!

50 pounds!

Aug 14, 2009

Made my mini goal of hitting the 50 pounds total lost!  I noticed this week that I can almost cross my legs normally!!!

My next goal is to be at or below 200.  I've got 36 pounds to go to that goal. A little bigger than my others, but I will be there soon!
