I've struggled with my weight for almost my whole life.  One of my earliest memories is being called "fat" in first grade.  I've had success losing weight but then would regain it, plus a few extra pounds for good measure.

In late 2011, I made the decision to "think seriously" about WLS.  I've been married for 14 years and my husband has Type 2 diabetes and has started to experience serious complications.  I don't have diabetes (yet) but I saw it in my future, in addition to high blood pressure and sleep apnea.  Both of our kids (10 and soon-to-be 14) weight more than they should.  So I'm making this decision for me and to hopefully serve as a positive example for my whole family.  My journey so far as been quite smooth.  I met with the surgeon for the first time in January, went through all the pre-op checks, and my insurance approval took less than a week.  My surgery date is just two weeks away (March 30).  Right now, I'm almost a week into the 1000-calorie-a-day diet.  Not easy but I know it's necessary.

I'm scared, but excited, especially reading the stories of other successful WLS patients and seeing some of the amazing photo transformations.
