Today is 10/3 and I have my evaluation with Dr. Bour. I have Cigna POS and today my 6 month diet history ends and my new life journey begins. We shall see what other requirements the insurance company can come up with to try and deny me. I have news for them I have tracked my weight since the 80's and I've always been fat...albeit not 224 lbs but obese just the same. I hate that word obese! Couldn't they find a better word to call me like my old standby "big boned". Anyway I will let you know how it goes today. Make sure your surgeon has a program designed to help you with any insurance requirements like a 6 mos diet hx complete with vitals etc like mine does. Wish me insurance approval luck!

Surgery was approved and completed March 11, 2008. The Surgery itself was okay but apparently I had a bad reaction to the pain med given in the OR (Dilaudid). I was hallucinating and they had a hard time waking me up in post op recovery. It only got worse throughout the night as they wanted me up and walking but I couldn't get the pictures on the wall to stay straight let alone get a leg on the floor. The machines kept blaring all night and I didn't sleep a wink. The next morning didn't go much better. Dr. Bour and I had a big disagreement and later that day I developed a fever of 102.5 and had to stay an additional day. I was angry at the Hospital for several reasons I won't mention, my surgeon, and at myself wondering what had I just done. I thought I made the worst mistake of my life. Now that I am a week post -op I am feeling much better and have dealt with the emotional aspect of it all. Today I saw Dr. Bour and we have made up for now. (I am just as stubborn as him). Anyway, I have come to realize that my "case" is highly unusual and most experiences won't be like mine. All in all I still can't complain since the problems I had really had nothing to do with the procedure itself. That has been perfect.

First Day home from surgery was rough trying to get in 80 grams of protein, but I managed it. Now I am on full liquids and looking forward to pureed.

If anyone is scared or confused I totally understand. Just trust your heart and your surgeon and most of all the Lord.
