Had VBG 9/05. After 2 years of complications, a revision to RNY was done 3/6/08.

I chosed to have weight loss surgery, the type I had was a VBG. The first year I lost most of my weight, I lost and gained the same 10 pounds after this time period. My surgeon retired but I kept appointments with my PCP because I seemed to always be sick.  After more then a year of throwing up, having no energy and no life I changed doctors. My new doctor put me in the hospital right away because I was so sick. I had a gastric outlet obstruction and a huge hiatal l hernia.  A weight loss surgeon came to my hosptial room and told me what was wrong, I must have cried for hours thanking the lord above I had found someone who could help me get better. I had a revision to RNY and hernia repair.  I didn't have much time to think about the new surgery because it happened so fast. I had a lot of pain, but at 5 weeks today I am SO much better. No throwing up, energy and a will to be a part of life again! Am I bitter because of the neglect I had with my previous doctor, you bet! Have I have wished I never had the orginial surgery, yes at times but it is getting better. Having weight loss surgery and complications has helped me realize the true gift of life. Weight loss is just that, a loss of weight...the real stuff is how we live our lives and the feeling of well being regradless of our body image.
