I made the decision to have wls after I attended my 10-year high school reunion in October 2001. I was totally humiliated and embarrassed that nobody remembered me because I had put on so much weight since high school.

I had wls August 2002 at South San Francisco Kaiser . I had open RNY. My highest weight was 262lbs, I was a size 22. I lost 17lbs in order to have surgery, so the day of surgery I weighed 245lbs.  It took me 9 months to reach my goal weight of 150lbs, but I didn't realize that 150lbs meant being a size 7. I wasn't comfortable at that weight, it was too thin for my height. I gained some weight back, which was very easy to do, with continuous snacking (which I don't recommend).

Dec. 2006 - I weigh 170lbs, size 11. I feel great! I have no regrets about having wls and I would do it again, in a heartbeat!  The surgery is not for everybody, and I would recommend extensive research to anybody thats considering it. If you're not ready to change your eating habits, it might not be for you.  In the beginning, your eating is very restricted, but a year after my surgery, my pouch stretched, appetite increased, and now its up to me to control my eating. I can't eat large meals in one sitting, but I can eat small meals all day long, so I can see how people gain the weight back. I can eat anything I want, except bagels. Sugar was never a problem with me from day one, although, I wish it were.

Aug. 2012 - 10yr post-op anniversary.  I'm having complications!
