Initial Visit

Nov 26, 2009

I had my initial surgical consult yesterday.  The day before Thanksgiving!!!  I was shocked to see how much weight I've added.   A good portion was fluid, but thats all gone now and the rest is Kelly!

The visit was quick and painless.  Didn't get to ask a lot of questions as I'm the first patient at this facility to be put into their new tracking system and be part of a study for BCBS.  I'm a guinea pig for sure.  Sometime around the first of next week I'll be getting my packet with all the Pre-op appointments.  I would love to get all these done during the month of December.  We'll see...  I'm doing this blog to track my progress and keep my eye on the prize.

A couple of suggestions if you're heading to your first visit:  I thought I was prepared...wrong!  Make sure the lab reports you take with you are current...as in the last the 3 months.  The TSH (thyroid test) must be current.  If you have had a chest Xray within the last 3 months..take it with you and please don't forget the list of medications you currently take.  My surgeon listened to my heart and lungs and palpated my stomach.  His nurse did most of the talking and explaining.  I'm on track pretty well just gotta get the psych eval done, the endoscopy and the nutrition consult.  Heading back to my doctor for the lab work and the chest Xray to save money and time.   You'll get tons of information to take home and read.

I've been looking at doing this for sometime and gave up on it once since I was told I couldn't get the lapband due to my BMI.  Don't give up..keep forging ahead and believe in you...you are worth the investment of time, money, blood, sweat and tears!!!
