My Journey

Sep 10, 2007

It has been quite an experience for me since surgery.  I had my surgery on 7/24/07 (Wednesday)  on Saturday I went home.  I felt great.  Sunday afternoon I started to kind of get a pain in my stomach.  It got worse and I could not keep anything down.  After about 3 hours of agony I finally called the surgeon.  He told me to go to the hospital.  I did, they did several tests including a CAT scan.  Apparently where my pouch met was starting to swell and I couldn't get anything down, they admitted me for a couple of days and things got better.  I went home again on Tuesday.  Felt good, pretty tired but that was expected.  Shortly after I started having stabbing pains in the right side.  After a couple of days I called the nurse at the doctor's office, told her there was kind of a bump there and that it really hurt.  She said it was probably a pocket of blood or something like that to just apply heat and it would disolve it, she said it won't clear up over night.  So for 2 days I laid in excruciating pain with the heating pad on trying to get things to disolve.  They were getting bigger!  My daughter had a dr's appointment with my PCP so I went with her.  I thought maybe it was a hernia.  She felt it and said that it was not to call the surgeon.  I did and they wanted to see me that day.  When I got there he cut open my incision site (had lap so had 6 sites) and the nastiest smelling green SHIT came pouring out!  I bet they got 2 cups of crap out of it.  It drained heavy like that for a week.  about 4 days into that week I thought I was getting another one on the left side.  The surgeon stuck a needle down into it and said it was not another infection.  WELL...it was.  I went home and put heat on it again, and of course it came to the surface.  So back again to have that one opened up, it was even bigger than the first one.  I had one more after that and am finally infection free!  Those were the most painful things.  I rank them right up there with child birth and I had twins natrually!!!!!
So after almost 8 weeks I am finally feeling normal.

Still waiting

Apr 02, 2007

I have appealed the 6 month supervised diet waiting period because it is not listed anywhere in the requirements for surgery but that is the reason they gave.  According to my doc we do have 4 months covered anyway so it shouldn't be too long!  I was hoping to be done by early april because my oldest daughter graduates in May and I don't want it too close to that.

ARGH!!!!

Well my insurance company denied me!  So now I am on the warpath to find a way!  It will happen!!!

Waiting

Mar 07, 2007

My request was submitted to Insurance on 3/1/07.  So I am playing the waiting game.  I have been thinking about this surgery for a couple of years, I even made two appointments with docs and chickened out!  Now I am ready and being impatient.  go figure!
