Update on my fall. I'm doing GREAT

Mar 11, 2024

Hello again , I'm back with an update. I do take everything the Dr says for vitamins now, they've added Zinc and Magnesium as well as changed my vitamin D to Vitamin D3 + K2. I guess it's making a big difference because the orthopedic surgeon was afraid I might need surgery but he said I healed up great and he was surprised , so I'm happy, wasn't looking forward to shoulder replacement. I'm back to walking again with my cane, just got released from the dumb boot thing so I can wear a shoe again. That boot is heavy.

Best news I ONLY GAINED 2 POUNDS SINCE NOV 4, 2023, when I fell.

Woohoo, I'm happy with that.

My husband and I have already been fishing and gone for little walks. I'm doing chair exercises.

Making protein coffee, trying to get back on track.

Oh and the infusion for the osteoporosis medication was easy 15 minutes it was done, do it once a year. The endocrinologist said that it's what they recommend for gastric bypass patients because it's easier on our stomachs, just an FYI for you.

Stressed out and struggling

Feb 05, 2024

I've been really struggling last 8 yrs to be honest. I stopped taking my vitamins properly back then and suffered consequences, RIGHT knee replacement ended up with broken femur, unfortunately not caught for a week though. This resulted in 6 more surgeries in 2 1/2 yrs on my knee. Wasn't expected to walk again but I surprised everyone and did. UNFORTUNATELY, All those years in wheelchair made me gain 75 lbs, since I was. I longer hiking and biking 60-80 miles a week and going to the gym.

Then, fell and broke my RIGHT wrist, which didn't heal properly, this too resulted in surgery with pins and plate. Started getting back to my love of fishing and losing weight, down 59 lbs

When life dealt me another blow, not quite year later, passed out, (they don't know why) but when I fell, I broke my left shoulder at the neck of the ball joint and my right ankle in 3 PLACES so was on complete BEDREST, non weight bearing for 11 weeks.

Learning to walk again, is VERY hard and painful. Luckily my husband has been helping me keep on track food wise once I got home from the nursing home. No idea what I weigh,  but my clothes still fit so I take that as a win. Now I've been diagnosed with SEVERE OSTEOPOROSIS, just got the infusion for it, hope it helps.

Not sure why I'm writing this, maybe someone else has been here or understand and can help me get out of this funk. I maintained so well until my damn knee replacement.

Now exercise is so hard, I follow my nutritionist and Drs plans, but feel like I need to do more.  IDK

Just frustrated. Thank you if you've read this far. Hugs

7 1/2 years out and struggling

Jul 08, 2014

I had 3 different jaw surgeries in one year which resulted in having my jaw wired shut, so was on blended food and NO exercise allowed for over a year (who knew even walking was hard on your jaw? I didn't) well the first surgery I livedon mashed potatoes and sugar freeice cream not good I know. But I was scared and frustrated. Long story short I put on ALOT of  weight. I got up to 198 lbs. I decided then and there to take back my life and use my tool the best I could given my circumstances. And started using protein drinks etc. To day I'm down to 180 lbs I still have a way to go. I know I can do it. I'm able to go back to the gym now. I'm in size 12 - 14. People still say ilook great, which is nice but I don't feel great so I need to do it for me noone else. I'm still s success by kaisers records. Dr dutta told me 190 was my goal weight. But I'm no longer weight watchers lifetime that upsets me.my goal is to be lifetime again. Sound crazy? Maybe but its my goal. I can say I still don't eat pasta, rice, chew gum, drink soda use straw etc. If I can gain weight without these things I don't want to even try them. I did find out that I love spaghetti squash and so I can have "spaghetti" I also have lasagna using zucchini as noodles. Super yummy. Don't give up you can do it

4 years out already

Nov 22, 2010

I can't believe its been 4 years already since my surgery. At times it seems like just yesterday and others it seems like it was forever. At my lowest weight I got down to 130 lbs (a 200 lb loss), At that point most everyone thought I WAS ANOREXIC, something I never thought I would be called (LOL), I was a size 4 or 6. it has been a very hard year as my family has suffered numerous family members passing, so I havent been exercising as much as I'd like to, was to busy taking care of my mom and my grama before they passed. I have out on weight Im now about 160 and a size 8 or 10. Even though I want to lse somemore weight again. I would rather be a solid size 9. Everyone says that I look better now then I did when I was so thin. I can actually look at pictures from when I was thinner and see that I reaslly didnt look that good (bones sticking out everywhere), but after being heavy for so long I thought I looked great!!!!! I do want to lose about 5-10 pounds at that weight I felt better, right now I just feel so blah and fat (I now that in itself sounds funny to, deeling fat at 160, when I used to be 330 lbs.) 2011 will be my year to regain myself and get back to where I want to be. I have maintained this weight for a long time so Im not worried about gaining more, and I have managed to get to the gym once or twice this month so that is an improvement.
Anyone out there going through this, know it is worth it.
As of today its been about 5 years since Ive had Soda, used a straw, had cAffeine, pasta, rice, gum, etc. I still dont eat or drink what they told me we were not supposed to. I know to many people who found out that they could still eat/drink that stuff and then have gained weight because of it. I figure Ive made it this far and dont miss it why chance it..
HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE

3 YEARS OUT AND DOING GREAT

Nov 24, 2009

I can't believe its been 3 years already, life is so great now, I got my 1st Degree black belt in June along with my husband, which was an awesome feeling. The gym and I are best friends, love ZUMBA, Spinning and even Yoga classes.  I no onger have any of the co-mobidities I had before surgery which is nice. I have a little problem with my iron count but we are working on it.  I have put on a little weight so I'm ion a size 8/10 and weigh between 147-149 lbs (started out at 330 lbs), everyone says I look alot better. When I was thinner I have people asking me if I had cancer or something as I looked so frail, my bones were all sticking out and I had no energy.  Never in my life did I think I wold be called Frail or Tiny, so it was kind of nice at first until everyone was getting so concerned. So I made a decision and gave away my size 4/6 clothes as I really thought I looked great at that weight even though I was being told I didnt and that people were concerned about me. And then someone took a picture and showed it to me, I couldn't believe it when I say all my bones sticking out through my clothes, that was kinda scary. Life is good again now though and I am maintaing at this weight and feel awesome. Still haven't had Pasta, Rice, Soda, used a straw and all theother stuff they say not to do in over 5 years as I don't want to find out I can do it without any problems.
I still keep track of what I eat and average about 1200-1300 calories a day if it is a super busy day for me at the gym I eat a little more, and I still take my protein drinks. I am one who cannpt eat that much at one time, so 3 meals a day with no snacks doesn't work for me, I eat about every 3 hours like clock work otherwise I don't get enough calories in which isn't good.

2 years out yesterday

Nov 23, 2008

my new tool was given to me 2 yrs ago yesterday. it has been the best gift of my life. i am down 192 lbs, have lot over 201 inches total, am in a size small or 6/8. i'm now a red belt in karate and plan to test for my black belt next June. I can now do REAL PUSHUPS 20 WITHOUT STOPPING, JUMPING JACKS, REGULAR SITTUPS NOT JUST CRUNCHES, plus jog. LIFE IS AWESOME, THIS IS THE WAY LIFE IS SUPPOSED TO BE.  I actually havebeen told by people that I am a little to thin, which is something I never thought I would hear. I am hoping ot get on a reality TV show for a makeover, that would be so cool as it is the only way I can ever get surgery done.
FOR ANYONE THINKING OF HAVING THIS SURGERY, I WOULD DO IT AGAIN IN A HEARTBEAT.  ALSO, LIVE LIKE YOU HAVE ALREADY HAD IT TO GET USED TO IT WHILE YOU STILL HAVE A CHOICE, LISTEN TO YOUR BODY AND EXERCISE EXERCISE EXERCISE,IT HELPS WITH THE WEIGHT LOSS AS WELL AS THE EXCESS SKIN.
When I had my surgery I had a 66" waist I now have a 30" waist WITH MY EXCESS SKIN., Plus I have gone from a size 10 wide shoe to a regular size 7 1/2, and my ring was a 9 3/4 I now wear a size 5.  Also, take pictures every month or so and marl your weight on them to see the difference. I kept one outfit frombefore it is amazing whenI put it on now. I actgually have a picture of me standing with both legs in one leg of my old pants.  That is an amazing thing.
GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE WHO IS ON THERE WAY, YOU CAN DO IT

16 MONTHS OUT AND DOING GREAT

Apr 08, 2008

Hi, boy has it been along time since I've been here. I'm 16 months out from surgery and down 182 lbs so far.  I am into a size 8 and small or medium, I don't think I've ever been this small in my life.  I have so much more energy and enjoy life.  I do karate 2-4 times a week, plus have joined a gym and am starting to train for a half marathon, life is grand.  I am off all of my medications and no longer have apnea.  People I've known my whole life don't recognize me when they see me.  My aunt even walked right past me at the airport in August when she came to pick me up, its been alot of fun.

5 MONTHS OUT, WHERE HAS THE TIME GONE

Apr 26, 2007

I am 5 months out from surgery now.  I am down to 208 lbs, I was 297 at surgery, 330 on June 1st, 2006.  I am so excited with the new me,  I can't believe the energy that I have.  My husband and I do Karate and kick boxing 2x a week as well as walking and such.  I'm also doing curves with my mom.  My surgery is a success by kaiser when I get to 193 lbs, to me it already is a success. I can go to a regular store and buy clothes for the first time in I don't know how long, plus I don't know the last time I weighed this little.

6 weeks out from surgery and doing great

Jan 11, 2007

My surgery was 6 weeks ago, I am down 40 lbs. since then, and a total of 73 pounds since June 1st.  In June I was a tight size 32 or 5X, I am now in 1X or 2X and size 20/22 depending,  Yesterday I was able to put on a pair of size 20 jeans and zip them up.  They fit in that sense but not the way I want them to wear out in public but that's ok, it won;t be long.  I can't believe how much energy I have now, I fogot how much fun it was to just walk and not get tired or sore.  I am so excited that I can finally buy clothes in a regular store even if it is in the plus size department.
