Enloe Medical Center (COE)

"The privacy issue is one that made my stay very difficult. In the five days I was there, I had three different roommates. Two of them were initially in great pain (accident multiple fracture victims)and were in audible agony all night. Two of them had multiple noisy family members staying until midnight when I finally would complain to the charge nurse to get them to go away; then these patients would get mad at me and ask for a different room so they could continue their parties elsewhere. I just don't get this attitude about hospitalization! There are private rooms at Enloe; I would definitely ask for one up front and pay the difference, but I wasn't in a frame of mind to be able to do this immediately postop, just trying to deal with the pain and meds, etc. Rest is very important after this surgery and it takes concentration to be able to deal with it and start to heal. "

C. Gary Cooper

"My first impression of Dr. Cooper was not what I expected (I've watched too may Gary Cooper movies, I guess!) I found him to be quiet and professional. He is not very charismatic, but I do trust him to do a good job on the surgery. He also talked in a very simplistic way so that anyone could understand. Diane, his office assistant, has been great. We have had to pester Pacificare a lot, and she has hung in there even though she is very busy. He was very emphatic about sticking to the program and doing exactly what he told me to do. He seems to be very easy to understand and clear, so that should not be a problem. He was also clear about the risks of surgery. After one office visit, I rate him as very good. I am basing much of my opinion on him on the testimonials of others who have had the surgery, and I agree with their assessment of his bedside manner being a little cool at first, and then warming up as you talk longer. He definitely made me feel as if the decision about the surgery and the goals were up to me and that I had to take the responsibility to work hard at making this work, but he also was assuring that it could work if I did what he said."
