I've been really lazy about posting...

Mar 02, 2010

on the plus size I'm down 65 pounds since surgery and overall 85 pounds lost. I am below 200 pounds for the first time in the last 22 years.  I'm wearing anything from a 12 to a 16 depending on how it's made.  I feel great.  My blood pressure medicine was discontinued and all of my meds have been decreased.  I feel better than I have in forever and I'm happier than ever before.  It's been 10 1/2 months since my surgery and my only regret is not doing it sooner!

Thought I'd take a minute and make a quick post

Sep 23, 2009

Well I'm down 48 pounds and feeling great.  My confidence and self-esteem have skyrocketed as the weight has come off.  I'm feeling more like the woman I remember from 18 to 21 or so.  My personal style is coming back and my husband seems to be enjoying the changes.   I am 25 or so pounds lighter than when we met 10 years ago so he's never experienced my personal style.  More importantly I like the person I am returning to being.  I feel healthy and happier (personally) than I have in years.  I still have a ways to go but I know I'll get there and it'll be a great trip.  I bought a size 16 skirt last week and that just amazed me. I haven't been able to wear a 16 since college!  I'm looking good and feeling good about myself and that's all that really matters.  I'll write again soon.

Ok I've been lazy...

Sep 03, 2009

about writing and it's been months since I did.  So here I am with a short update on how I'm doing.  I have lost 45 pounds since surgery, my BMI is down to 34 from 42 and I feel so much better.  My primary doctor has cut my blood pressure medicine in half and eliminated one for cholesterol.  My endocrinologist has reduced my diabetic medicine to 1.5 mg per day (I was on 3 different meds to control it).  She fully expects to eliminate the one left in March '10 or sooner.  I have energy and I feel good about me.  All things that have been sadly lacking for a very long time.  I would do it again in a heartbeat my only regret is not doing it sooner!  I'll try to write more often.  Take care it's time to go take a walk in the neighborhood!

Home...

Apr 28, 2009

Well surgery was last Wednesday.  I was discharged from the hospital on Thursday afternoon and went to a friends condo on the beach.  My husband, his parents and brother joined us and we had a nice evening.  On Friday hubby and I moved to a hotel.  On Sunday the doctor said I could return home.  I am eating puree foods and getting in all of my protein.  I am having trouble getting all of my liquids in though.  I guess it's time to make jello!  I ate enough jello in the hospital that I didn't want any for a while.  Now it's time to add it back in.  I'm down 10 pounds and I haven't taken any diabetic medications since surgery.  My sugar is doing well and hopefully I won't need any more meds for it.  I'll write more later.  Talk to you soon...

Woo hoo my surgery date has been set!

Apr 01, 2009

I am so excited.  I received my cardiac clearance today.  Dr. Marema's office called to let me know and to set my surgery date.  It has been set for April 22nd.  My nutrition class is on the 21st.  My husband is taking 2 weeks off to be with me after surgery.  I am planning to take 4 weeks off to recover and rest after.  If anyone has any tips or suggestions I would love to hear them.  Take care everybody and I'll post again soon.

Stress Test

Mar 26, 2009

Well on Tuesday I had an echocardiogram and the first half of a chemical stress test.  Today I went back and had the resting  half of the chemical stress test. The tech said the cardiologist will review it tomorrow morning and by the afternoon  I should know if my clearance has been given.  I spoke with US Bariatric on Tuesday morning and my surgery date is tentatively set for April 20th.  I am trying not to get my hopes up just in case there is another delay of some sort.  Hopefully I will be able to say tomorrow that my surgery is scheduled and I have my pre-op appointment and NUTS class.

Still waiting...

Mar 20, 2009

3/20/09 Well I was hoping to see the cardiologist have my EKG and walk out with a clearance to proceed with WLS but it didn't work out that way.  The cardiologist wants to do a chemical stress test and echocardiogram before she signs off on the surgery.  On Monday when I had my psych eval the psychologist stated she didn't see any reason that would deny me the WLS but it would take her 10 to 14 days to write the report.  After seeing my crestfallen expression she said she would try to get it done by today and sent over to US Bariatric on 3/23/09.  The only thing that worked out OK was my chest x-ray.  They didn't have to take additional films and said they would send the report by today.  I was really hoping to have surgery around April 20th but now it looks like it will be later than that.  Oh well.  A few more days more or less won't change anything.  Write more later...

Psych Eval...

Mar 16, 2009

3/16/09 Well I had my psych eval this morning.  I was really hoping to walk out with paper stating I could have the surgery but no dice.    The psychologist was very nice but said it would take at least a week to write her evaluation and submit it to US Bariatric.  Although when we were finished and I was leaving she did say she didn't see any reason why the recommendation would be withheld.  I am to call her Friday morning to remind her to work on the report and hopefully she will get it done before Monday.  Tomorrow morning I have my chest x-ray and on Friday I see the cardiologist for a cardiac clearance and EKG.  I am getting closer to setting a date.  As the days pass and I get a step closer I am getting more excited.  I have lost about 6 pounds on the phase 1 bariatric diet I was given by the surgeon's office.  All loss is good loss!  Got to run...work to do.  I'll post more later.

It's a beautiful day in FL...

Mar 09, 2009

3/9/09 I had jury duty today.  I got to sit in a room for 4 hours and wait for the judge to decide he didn't need a jury.  Oh well at least I get paid by my employer for my time.  The weather is gorgeous here in central FL.  Not to hot and sunny I wish it was like this all year!  I am going for a walk in a little bit to enjoy the day and get some exercise.  Stopped at Publix on the way home and picked up some fresh, canned and frozen veggies and boneless/skinless chicken.  I received the phase 1 bariatric diet from my surgeon's office last week.  I haven't had bread in a week and that is one of the hardest things for me to give up.  I love bread.  Otherwise I am doing good.  I've cooked pretty much every night (not my normal) and my hubby is thrilled.  Tonight is boneless pork chops, broccoli and corn.  I have cut my portions in half as directed added fresh fruit or veggie to each meal and not feeling to deprived or hungry.      Hopefully I will lose a little weight before I have my RNY.  I see the cardiologist and the psychologist next week to get my surgery clearances.  Hopefully the cardiologist won't request any additional testing for a later date.  If all goes well next week and we get our income tax refund by the end of the month I can schedule my surgery.  I'd really like to set it for 4/20 but we shall see.  More later...

Finally decided to write some...

Mar 08, 2009

Well I have been lurking around for about 6 weeks or so and finally feel like I am ready to start talking.  I started thinking about lap band a couple of years ago but didn't pursue anything-to nervous about surgery and my hubby wasn't happy with the idea.  In January I decided to go attend an information session on bariatric surgery.  My hubby went with me and asked as many questions as I did if not more plus his questions focused more on problems and mortality rates.  After listening to the surgeon I decided I didn't want him and went to a second session by Dr. Marema and U.S. Bariatric.  I liked him much more than the first surgeon and Dr. Marema not only performs the surgery he has had gastric bypass himself.  He made sense and was very supportive.  After hearing the benefits of RNY I decided that was what I wanted.  I completed the packet of information provided at the information session and began gathering the required information.  My insurance required a 6 month supervised diet program.  Although I had been to WW for the last 2 years I couldn't find my weight record.  My endocrinologist wrote my letter of medical necessity and identified the number of diets I had attempted.  I began monthly visits with my primary just in case I would be required to complete the supervised dieting.  I mailed a packet of papers to the insurance person in Dr. Marema's office on 2/24/09.  On my birthday 2/27 I received a phone call from her stating she had received my packet and submitted it on 2/26. She then stated she had received an approval from the insurance company.  I was in shock and didn't know what to say or do.  I hadn't been expecting an approval so soon or easily.  Now I am waiting to see the cardiologist for clearance and the psych eval.  Both appointments are scheduled for the week of 3/16. With luck I will get approval from both and be able to schedule my surgery.  Wish me luck..
