I'm banded!

Woot Woot!

Ok, so my hospital story. Tues 6/23/09 my Dad and I headed to Denver, Brandon had to stay home and watch the kids. Pretty hard, I wanted him with me, I was nervous and scared. Dad helped out a lot, was very supportive. We took it easy on the trip down, ended up getting lost a little bit but got to the Drs office RIGHT on time. Went in, everyone was very nice, Dr. K was very supportive, hands on- great doctor. He explained everything in detail, told me what would happen and when and answered any questions that I had. One thing that was very nerve-wracking was that after I was knocked out they would put a tube down my throat- VERY SCARY!! I got all my prescriptions filled, went to the hotel and relaxed. Pre-op appt weighed 324.8 fully clothed, after eating, having to pee. Pretty good so start! (Starting weight was 330)

A word of warning to future banders: When the Dr tells you to get a laxative suppository, get a suppository. Don't think "oh, well, pills are the same thing!" Because guess what? THEY ARE NOT! They tend to give you an upset stomach and diarrhea on surgery day. On top of AF coming for a visit. And having to tell the nurses that you need to get up to use the bathroom AGAIN? Very embarrassing. Even more embarrassing? All of our rooms were separated by cloth dividers. The bathroom was in the middle. So when you get up you MIGHT accidentally think you are holding the gown CLOSED.. but actually hold it OPEN...

Anyway, surgery day I was admitted by a Grandma with the perkiest boobs EVER (LOL) and changed into my gown. The IV was inserted with very little difficulty, thank God!, and they started the fluids. The wait time went very fast, the anesthesiologist came by, chatted some, then Dr. K. Before I knew it it was 9:00 and I was wheeled into the OR. I'll admit, I cried a bit. I had to scoot onto another bed and they put an oxygen mask on me to help me breathe. Because of our elevation breathing was a  big deal- we were around 6k feet, but I live at 7200. The Anesthesiologist kept telling me I was going to feel sleepy, the next thing I knew I was hearing "Kimberly, Kimberly. Time to wake up!" I was in a lot of pain and very very VERY nauseous. They gave me everything they could for nausea- I just don't think the crap worked on me. The pain meds knocked me out, I couldn't stay awake so I ended up spending more time in recovery than usual. I was out of surgery by 10:30 and my Dad wasn't allowed back until about 1. By 2 I was discharged and heading back to the hotel to sleep some more. I actually felt pretty good that day.

Thurs I felt good, but Friday and Saturday I was very nauseous again, the smell of food made me gag- I actually got up at night to dry heave. I had some pretty bad headaches when I first woke up but those went away almost right away. Today is the first day I've felt human... tomorrow I might even get DRESSED!!
