Hi everyone, my name is Karen. I am 23yrs old and I live in Corona, Queens, NY. At the moment I don't work. I am a full time single mom. I am studying to get my cosmetology license. I took up cosmetology in HS which I graduated in 2003 and I got my 1,000 hrs of cosmetology. I had taken the cosmetology state board exam once but I failed it, So I am trying to study for it again because that is what I always wanted to do for my future. Hopefully I can pass the state board exam soon but it is hard to study when you are a single mom and you hardly ever get a break. I have a son which is 2yrs old. His name is Nicholas. He is a little devil but I love him with all of my heart and soul. He is the reason why I decided to get weight loss surgery. my dad is really heavy and sick and I don't want to get like him with diabities and all. I want to live and stay as healthy as long I can for my son and also for me cause I don't want to leave him alone in this world and I want to be there for him untill I am old. I lost my mom when I was only 13yrs old and she was really sick also and obese but she had liver cancer. I don't want to pass away at a young age. I got the lap band on October 22nd, 2007. I had my surgery at NYU medical center. My doctor is Dr. Kurian. She is a wonderful doctor. I love her. She is a really good doctor and she cares about her patients on like some other doctors I have been to. I really feel comfortable with her. Before my pre-op diet I was 227lbs. I was never in my life that big. When I had my son, I suffered from postpartum depression and I was so depressed about everything that I comforted myself with food. I went through hell and back in my pregnancy with my son's father and still am but I am not making that stop me anymore. Before my pregnancy I weighed about 190lbs and when I was a little girl, OMG I was a tooth pick lol. I was the skinniest 1 out of my whole family. Then when I was like in 4th grade I started to get chubby, and as the yrs went by, I just kept getting bigger. I am so happy that I had gotten the lap band surgery. It has changed me in so many ways. and I hope whoever had gotten the surgery, I hope it changed you in so many ways and whoever is thinking about getting the lap band surgery, I wish you lots of luck and I am sure you will have lots of luck. It will be 1 of your best decsions that you will make in your life.
